Question about UI

how come Dianemo uses LinuxMCE and why can't we use their user interface.  Just a question.

tschak909

...seriously? Are you that thick?

Because their UI is their proprietary skin. They developed it themselves, and have decided not to share it with the LinuxMCE community, that's their choice.

Dianemo is on a very different track from us, and while Uplink does push code changes to us from time to time, their own pieces which are NOT released as GPL or PPL, do not have to be pushed back to us.

Really Thom?  Must we chase away all new users when they ask an honest question?

Damn Thom...ease up a lil. :-\

It was a question...I was just wondering why we haven't adopted a newer skin...I know it's functional and it works so why bother but their skin just looks cooler and a little more user friendly.

NO OFFENSE.

Fair question if you arent familiar with the unique relationship between the two.

People in Ireland try to avoid using such terms!

But on topic i do think its a strange area for non open-source development people to get their heads around.  its a grey area around open-source and proprietary.

I'm sure some people would say UI2 is cooler!

Hi,

regarding UI2. Dianemo reported, that they prefer using UI1, cause it's the same on all devices...

Hi,

Thom is totally correct in what he says. Our UI is not something we provide back to the LinuxMCE community - partly because our UI skins depend on new features that are not available or in some cases have not been integrated into LinuxMCE. We do make the vast majority of our code changes available to LinuxMCE but there are some parts that we don't. In some cases the changes we have made are at odds to the direction of LinuxMCE and so our changes don't make any sense in the context of LinuxMCE.

all the best
