audio (dlna/upnp) client

Hello,

I am new to lmce, and I want a audio system in every room. I do not however want a media director in every room, so is it possible to have a upnp/dlna renderer/client in the room and then stream audio to this room?

For instance a google chromecast (if that is supported), or a device like that http://dx.com/p/ipush-multi-media-wi-fi-dlna-miracast-display-receiver-dongle-for-android-white-218502.

Is that generally possible, and what are the things I have to watch out for?

best regards
Daniel

For audio in multiple rooms (2), kitchen and patio, I am planning on using Squeezeslave on the core, piped to some computer speakers I have around, using some additional sound cards.

Have not sorted out as yet how to control the power on the speakers, but thinking of using a zwave plug, and there must be some scenario to turn on and off.

Have not gotten around to this as yet, as my install and I are in a wrestling match,

In connection with DLNA/UPNP, it works for me (UlPNP), as my collection are playable by the renders, WD live and PI running XBMC, not transcoding.

unfortunately that is not possible for me due to wiring reasons..

Hi,

I've been recently reminded to option with Raspberry Pi.  This seems the route my system will go...

Take a look:

Would you mind detailing why wireless Squeezeboxes are posing wiring issues?

Yeah, either get some real Squeezeboxes on the second hand market, or install SqueezeOS or SqueezeSlave onto a device, whammo. You have an audio zone! :)

I have two audio zones in this house that are taken care of by Jogglers running SqueezeOS, Orbiter, and SimplePhone.

wireless squeezeboxes are not posing wiring issues, squeezeslave on the server is.

And secondhand squeezeboxes are far more expensive than a 35$ stick, so if that works too it is a preferable solution.

atm SqueezeBoxes work nicely. Perfectly integrated into the system for (synchronized) audio playback. There is currently no support for controlling UPnP renderer.

Oh, the wiki page in DLNA gave me the impression that it works with generic DLNA/UPnP devices, is that wrong?

Daniel

Well, if you wanna help Sambuca finish up the UPnP device, that'd be great :)

Would you mind directing me to the page where you saw that?

What I do know is working is the ability to browse the LinuxMCE media from a UPnP device, ie. PULLing media to your device. But that's not like the stuff that Dianemo has in their system, which allows you to PUSH stuff from their version of LinuxMCE TO an UPnP renderer.

Now that you explained it, and I read over it again it was not specific what exactly is implemented.
http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Dlna

I (wrongly) assumed that the DLNA protocol was implemented both ways.

EDIT: did anyone try using squeezeplayer on android (http://www.squeezeplayer.com)? could this work?

Marie.O

Any Squeezeplayer (hardware and software-only) did work for me.

In Dianemo we use UPnP/DLNA SmartTV's and various devices including the Raspberry Pi running Raspbmc to stream & control devices over IP (Giving you vol +/-, Input selects, Standby On/Off and full transport control from your Orbiters) - that works for Music or video. The Raspbmc Rpi works nicely for this and can be powered from a TV's usb port if your stuck for suitable power outlets. Add a Wifi dongle and you can do all the above without a physical LAN. You could run Squeezeslave on the Rpi if you would prefer a pure audio solution based around Squeezecenter/Squeezebox technology (as Posde & Thom say they work great for audio and you can mix physical Squeezeboxes together with Squeezeslaves running at the Core & in IP connected devices).

All the best

Andy
