AVWizard Repeats every boot
« on: January 31, 2013, 12:54:57 am »
Hi Guys,

Just got a nvidia geforce 8400gs graphics card so I can use vdpau. Installed and working. The motherboard also has an nvidia graphics card (7025 so no vdpau).

Problem is every time I reboot it reports no /etc/X11/xorg.conf even though there is one (checked with ssh). Then I'm back in the AVWizard.

Updated recently.
Any ideas?
Barney

Hi Barney... please update again, first of all. There really should be no way that it says there is not an xorg.conf if there is one.

If the upgrade does not solve this problem, please drop into IRC and we will work through it.
I never quit... I just ping out.

Upgrading now using your GlobalUpgrades.sh. Looks like a lot of updates happening.

Will report back.

Hi l3mce,

Updated but same result. Not sure if this helps but ...

Last messages on the screen before wizard are:
Code: [Select]
* Starting upnp media server mediatomb
02:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: NVIDIA Corporation ....
/etc/X11/xorg.conf is missing. Using video driver 'nvidia' for NVIDIA Corporation GT210 [GeForce 8400 ....

Not set up for IRC at the moment. Will try and do that tomorrow.
Cheers
Barney

Same problem here - my MD always runs the AV wizard on reboot.

Upgraded 28th Jan.

Cheers,
Matt.

Something is preventing avwizard from finishing cleanly and writing the xorg.conf.

Please remove the /etc/X11/xorg.conf.pluto.avwizard file if it exists and run again.

Also please bash -x /usr/pluto/bin/SetupAudioVideo.sh 2>&1 | pastebinit

OK thanks.

Sorry, but that command just hangs!

I also tried to dump the output into a text file, but that didn't work either.

Cheers,
Matt.

EDIT: FYI /etc/X11/xorg.conf.pluto.avwizard does not exist on MD.

Can you please just run bash -x /usr/pluto/bin/SetupAudioVideo.sh

It will probably throw a FATAL: at you, ignore that. Please tell me if it completes.

This appears to be the source of the problem. Do you have sound on the MD? You might rm /etc/asound.conf and see if that changes anything.

This is the last page or so of the output from that http://pastebin.com/B5Dg78G7

I am fairly sure it was stopping at the FATAL before; why it's now completing I don't know.

Yes I have sound on the MD, works fine. I will try rm /etc/asound.conf and see if that works (when she's finished watching Glee).

Using analogue stereo if that's relevant.

Cheers,
Matt.

Removing /etc/asound.conf (I renamed it, hope that's OK) didn't so anything, still boots into AV wizard.

Cheers,
Matt.

Not that then.
Please revert the changes you made, reboot, run avwizard and paste /var/log/pluto/AVWizard_Run_*.log where * is the date and time.

If it helps ....

I restored a known working xorg.conf to my acer revo mds (from a GlobalUpgrades.sh backup). That fixes it and they no longer go into the Wizard on reboot.

My hybrid core still does but I rarely reboot that.

I think the default xorg.conf generated by the system since late January is missing something.

From memory ... if I rm xorg.conf* from /etc/X11/ and reboot ... the wizard runs and creates a xorg.conf. However this new conf is ignored when the system reboots and the wizard runs again.

This does not seem to happen with a known good xorg.conf.

Also worth mentioning that around the same time I was having lots of 'Failed to setup X' issues. I actually had it on all three mds at one point. I think that is why I resorted to the backups.

All my mds have nvidia graphics cards.

Let me know if I can help troubleshoot this.
Cheers
Barney

I am keeping an eye out for you on IRC.

Something else that occurred to me; when I first installed the MD I was playing with different refresh rates and/or resolutions if I recall correctly. I wasn't happy with the selection, and found that I couldn't get the AVWizard to run from the orbiter button, or by holding shift during restart. Therefore I ran it with...

Code: [Select]
/usr/pluto/bin/AVWizard_Run.sh
I wonder if this has anything to do with it. Barney, have you run this command at any point?

Cheers,
Matt.
