Android Qorbiter crashing
« on: February 14, 2012, 04:47:40 pm »
Hello,

I have been trying the Android Qorbiter on a cheap tablet:
- I installed the application on the tablet (and it downloaded a bunch of extra libs)
- I created a new qorbiter orbiter in the web admin
- set default room, user and skin in the webadmin
- generated the orbiter config file on the core by running the PHP script
- downloaded the skins from svn to the core
- did a full regen of the orbiter, then a reset of the core
- edited the config XML file on the tablet to put my core IP (which is different from default) and device ID
- started the qorbiter on the tablet
- the qorbiter will show me the main screen of the orbiter with all the buttons.
- when I click on the power button or advanced button, a new popup menu comes up with the expected content

BUT when I click on any other button like Audio, Video or even Sleeping Menu, the Qorbiter application closes

Any idea what is wrong, or whether the Qorbiter writes any logs on the tablet that I could look at?

Thank you!

Jean

PS: My DCERouter.log shows this:

The Device ID of the qorbiter is 271

I get that response in landscape view but it works in portrait.

There is no need to do a full or quick regen of the qorbiter.

The Android qOrbiter will crash. That is the short answer  ;) It is still very much alpha quality and the media browser crash happens a lot.
Also note that from my experience, the skin is different when your device is in landscape when starting up, than it is when starting the orbiter in portrait mode. You might get different results depending on which one you use.

basically, what sambuca said. The Media browser apparently doesnt like Android and ive been spending 12hr+ days trying to figure out why. As soon as I can determine what the issue is, there will be an update.

thanks for your patience

I'm an Android user (Honeycomb, 3.2 on a Tablet). I downloaded qOrbiter. If/When I get a LMCE server & media directors up, I'll be happy to help alpha/beta test...
See my User page on the LinuxMCE Wiki for a description of my system configuration (click the little globe under my profile pic).

Dont take this the wrong way, but I really need someone with strong android java / c++ experience to try and help me debug @ this point. If thats you, great :)

The real fun part is that we are cross-compiling from qt to java... so god only knows whats going on in there!

But like i said, if this is you by all means. Im in irc most of the time except now because i need a break to try and clear my head to take another run at this problem. Also, android seems to be special in that it doesnt like how I construct dynamic images. mac, linux, meego, all work fine. this stupid platform is giving me  grey hairs!

Thanks for the feedback, I was just wondering if I was doing something wrong here. I'll wait for an update and test again. FYI I tested in Portrait and it gives me the same issue..

I totally understand. My Android is weak, Java moderate, C++ strong, but my debugging skills are legendary.  ;D

welcome to the team! lol

-Current major issues
*Android doesnt like my conversion of dynamic images from binary data
*Android doesnt like the media grid screen (reasons totally unknown)

Now, I have not been able to get any meaningful debug output, any advice in this area is appreciated. As previously stated, im in irc most of the time to explain issues further in depth.

After epic battles, i think the latest release is an improvement. But I wont know until i get some feedback. It should be live by Sunday Morning (11:30ish pm pst here) and let me know how it goes.

-Should address the wrong screen size being detected
-should be less michael-bay-splosion inducing (stable)

Ran this through a motorola droid II emulator and galaxy tab as well as generic tablet and generic phone. Lots of targets!!

Sorry, just bought a house. Packing. Computers aren't down though so I'll get my development environment up and running this weekend for this QOrbiter so that I can test better. I updated my Vizio VTAB1008 and it is much better. Far fewer crashes and the grids display more often than not now. I'll hook up my debugger to it and find out what exactly is crashing out ASAP then I'll send you a report.
