need support on Linux DVB-T and V4L with a Guideline
« on: November 25, 2011, 09:12:14 am »
Hi!
Slowly I get nuts on my problem getting my DVB-T USB Stick up and running.
I run LinuxMCE 8.10 and the DVB-T Stick is even not recognized. The /var/log/messages just tells me about a USB Device pluged in. (In Ubuntu 11.10 the Stick runs just plug and play)

What I tried: I found a Guide (http://linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/How_to_Obtain,_Build_and_Install_V4L-DVB_Device_Drivers) which is more or less understandable for me - getting a step by step guide.
A german guy also did a step by step guide - referenced on the link above
http://wernerroth.de/index.php/2011/03/12/technaxx-dvb-s4-unter-kubuntu-10-10-installieren/ but thact was for Kubuntu 10.10

BUT - the prerequisites needto "apt-get install linux-firmware-nonfree" which I can not install because it is not available. Does anyone have an Idea why?

So I just did

git clone git://linuxtv.org/media_build.git
cd media_build
./build.sh

which worked and th "var/log/message" showed more now when I plugged in my DVB-T Stick - it stated that there was something with a module af9015 but the device still does not work.
In Ubuntu 11.10 the device is stated as AFAtech9013...

My question to you is if anyone can support me with
-) how can I get the "linux-firmware-nonfree" package installed in Kubuntu 8.10
-) a step by step guide to update the necessary firmware, drivers, modules, ... what ever is necessary to be installed on my system?

I would be very thankful for your help after days of frustration.
Thank you in advance
Roman

Hi Roman,

Have you had a look here --> http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php/topic,9354.0.html
Mandingo normally adds support for certain capture cards.

Hi Karel!
Thank you for your hint!
I already posted my details in the thread.
My intention was to reach people beeing fit on the Linux part to get help on driver problems.
I also have an open thread for kernel update help - or if someond suggests an reliable method of doing a kernel update. Perhaps this would solve some issues.
I would like to keep things simple and not messing around very much (from my side ;-) )
Lets see what comes up here additional.
very best regards
Roman
