Hi guys, I am probably missing a simple option here but any advice would be great. I decided to add an Asus 1gb ENGT220 graphics card to my Dianemo 710 system and utlise it as the main MD in the living room. The problem I encountered is that I wasn't able to use HDMI audio after rerunning the audio/video setup. Checking the wiki it seems this is an issue with my MB according to this http://wiki2.linuxmce.org/index.php/NVidia_GT220_HDMI_sound (although i think the  Asus P7M-F WS should read P7F-M instead??) So although I have great video, no sound. Easiest thing would be to use the pci sound card, except I had to remove this as the heatsink from the card blocks the adjacent PCI slot! I want to be able to use at least 5.1 audio so digital output is essential, anybody had any experience with decent usb or other sound cards which might fit the bill?

Cheers

You'll need alsa 1.0.22 or later and you may hit other issues even then around the older kernel used in 0710. All in all the disparity between the age of the 0710 system and the graphics hardware your using is stretching things a fair bit to say the least.

All the best

Thanks Andrew,
I had pretty much resolved myself to this after reading the wiki page. Although i would like to point out the advice to go down the GT220 or above route came from Winston. Regardless of this, do you have any recommendations for a usb based sound card that may work preferrably plug and play? The wiki only refers to PCI based cards.

Thanks

Back in Feb, 2010 it was announced that Dianemo systems supported the GT220, including audio over HDMI http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=8880.msg66118#msg66118
I received my system in late september, 2010
I don't think that this is stretching things too far to say the least.
