MythTV-Setup configuring DVB-T (Switzerland)

I've got both a Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-1200 and 4000. I've managed to configure the DVB-S part on the 4000 properly so that I get channels but neither card find any channels when scanning for DVB-T.

Both cards are PnP and I remember getting DVB-T channels when I tried out the 1200 back before the winter. I am not sure if I configured anything wrong but I might have missed something. I've tried all different kinds of things in MythTV-Setup. Right now I am also trying with deleting the cards and then only having the 1200. So far the scanning still fails to lock to any channels but am continuing with one card only (1200) until this works.

My backend configuration is the following:
1. General
TV format: PAL-BG (have also tried PAL)
VBI format: PAL Teletext
Channel frequency table: europe-west (have also tried default)

2. Capture Cards
All on default - Using the DVB-T tuner (the 1700 only has one anyways)

3. Video sources
I've tried two things mainly
Listings Grabber: EIT and Switzerland (xmltv)
xmltv grabber for Switzerland doesn't work as the site it took it from change things. But this part is only for the channel/program guide right? As in it shouldn't affect the channel scanning?

Country: there is no Switzerland so I've tried all others.

Have I configured it wrong? Did I miss configuring something?
As mentioned this is for Switzerland. Lastly I have tested the cable and antenna on a stand-alone DVB-T box for the TV and it gets the channels perfectly. I don't know what else to do. Considering how little options there are for DVB-T I can only find very simple/primitive MythTV guides for it.

Which version of linuxmce do you have | snapshot, install date, version of mythTV

I did a reinstall and now I've got it working. I'm not sure if it was the re-install or if I forgot to try UK as the country in the previous install but it now works.
In case of interest I'm running 8.10 (snapshot 23887).

It seems I spoke a bit too soon. The 4000 still doesn't lock any DVB-T channels whereas the other works as mentioned above (note: the other card is a 1200, not a 1700 as I falsely stated).

I have even done one more reinstall with only the 4000 (also replaced with another 4000 card that I have) but with no luck. Doing more focused searches on the 4000 I seem to have the same problem as Nuwis in this thread: http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=9293.0 So I will continue my typing there. Note the thread there is marked as Solved but only for the OP.

Could you pastebin your dmesg?
and look for if your firmware is properly loaded

How do I see if the firmware is properly loaded? At least in the dmesg it says the upload is complete but that might not be the same thing?

That looks ok. Is there a newer firmware? I know there is "a firmware" that is buggy. Please verify, using google

Alright so there seems to be have been a few issues with the card over time. On mythbuntu 9.04 the firmware bugs out so you had to use an earlier version. Then 2.6.30-2 had a broken driver so you had to install some "mercurial module" v4l driver. Lastly on "Ubuntu 10.04/MythTV 0.23" there's a problem with scanning in DVB-T as well.

I have tried 3 different firmwares. I've tried installing v4l but so far no luck. I might have missed if but I don't seem to have seen a proper solution for the 10.04/0.23 problem either. Now I'll go to bed but if anyone has any suggestions I'm all ears (preferably with some details as I'm still a noob).

The way I installed v4l drivers was the following (in case I did something wrong, it didn't give me any errors at least):

I think I'll give up. I've tried all solutions I've found but with no luck. I'm not even sure the problem has a solution to it. Does anyone have a HVR-4000 running DVB-T on LMCE 8.10 w/ MythTV 0.23? Btw thanks bongowongo for trying to help out.

Whilst we're on the subject of MythTV, is it normal that Myth doesn't properly go back from the screensaver when scanning? Especially DVB-S scanning takes a long time so you don't stay for the process to finish. When I come back and press on something then the screensaver stops moving, I get the "X       Keyboard        Ø" (power symbol) overlay but the rest doesn't come back. Not a big deal since one can just pop in and move the mouse every X minutes so the screensaver doesn't go on, but I'm just curious if this only happens to me.
