Versions Snapshot 8.10
« on: August 23, 2010, 02:00:53 pm »
Hi Developers,

if u look at the snapshots at http://linuxmce.iptp.org/snapshots/ its a bit confusing:

LinuxMCE-8.10-23194-i386.iso 23-Jul-2010 20:17  3.8G
LinuxMCE-8.10-23200-i386.iso 23-Aug-2010 08:11    2        <-- 23 august and size 2?
LinuxMCE-8.10-23227-i386.iso 02-Aug-2010 12:16  3.8G
LinuxMCE-8.10-23233-i386.iso 10-Aug-2010 12:16  3.8G
LinuxMCE-8.10-23234-i386.iso 19-Aug-2010 12:11    2        <-- size 2?
LinuxMCE-8.10-23236-i386.iso 19-Aug-2010 12:11    2        <-- size 2?
LinuxMCE-8.10-23248-i386.iso 18-Aug-2010 16:17  3.8G
LinuxMCE-8.10-23251-i386.iso 19-Aug-2010 08:16  3.8G
LinuxMCE-8.10-23257-i386.iso 22-Aug-2010 20:15  3.8G

so to get things clear, wich is the latest and why do they differ in size?

The snapshots are are numbered by svn revision, so you can tell which are the latest by highest svn revision in the file name.

The files you point to that show a size of '2' are snapshots that did not build correctly.  You won't have much luck with a 2 byte DVD. ;-)  Use a snapshot that is 3.8G (note that this could change, not likely to get any smaller though...)  Typically the most recent snapshot is the one to go with just remember that snapshots are just that - snapshot of the source code at a given moment.  Some contain bugs, some work well, some don't work at all.

Hope that helps.

J.

Well, put it that way: The latest snapshot is not always the best bet. It does contain the latest stuff, but the snapshots themselves are meant for testing. There is absolutely no guarantee that they will work. Sometimes it helps to read around, and see what snapshot people are using successfully, and download that (if it is still available). I regularly zero out older snapshots.

Is there a common, good snapshot that people are using these days that is stable? Which snapshot are most people having the best luck with currently?
Core: Broken :(
