After I implement some of basic lmce functions I wonder if it would be possible to implement some kind of tracking system? Have anybody given this issue some serious thought on how to implement it and if it is even possible to implement it in lmce?

Tracking one user is trivial if an possible with only motion sensors.  Tricky part is having multiple people moving around the house and knowing who is where. For that kind of tracking some kind of personally identifiable tags are needed, right?

What would be the benefit of having user tracking in lmce? Would you thing it is an important feature or not?

To track more then one user all of them should have unique cards or your cameras should have face recognising. IMHO that feature for the home users is useless.

Does the bluetooth follow me thing not serve the same purpose?

Indeed, I think the system would need to be a lot more cumbersome before I resorted to surgery

Don't know about you guys but I would love to have stuff happen as I move about my flat... would be really cool, and also there could be great benefit for people with different disabilities that could have an easier life with preprogrammed lmce system that would react to their presence...

AFAIK there is no software in lmce that does face recognition, so you need to find some project that does this (if it exists) and find some programmer who could work with lmce devels and implement it.

Also doesn't Google's Picasa have some facial recognition element to it?

Your links are are great but LinuxMCE devels are already swamped with tasks, so until some new blood starts joining the devel ranks there is little to no chance of some major new features like this.

ps. Picasa is not open source software.

And I didn't realise that about Picasa! I thought "Google = open source", obviously not the case!

I have a mobile phone and my girlfriend does too and we boh take them wherever we go. Since BT has a limited range it should be easy enough to link a particular BT ID to an individual. I would place a BT only in strategic areas like the kitchen, rooms, office... Maybe by the TV set. In that way you could for instance automatically set the security in home safe mode when all individuals are staying for a prolongueg time in their bedrooms and the time is past 10:00PM, etc..

Also there is a backtrace posibility: tell the system to find the mobile phone for me!

Bluetooth has a fairly wide range, depending on your setup. I am pretty sure, in a smallish apt, say 40sqm, you will have BT reception from one end to the other. If you have 400sqm thinks might be different
