LinuxMCE MacMini 1.66 Ghz / Intel Core Duo
« on: July 11, 2010, 10:47:52 pm »
Hello,

first of all, i'm a LinuxMCE beginner. please, do not blame me if i ask stupid questions. ;-)

i want to install LinuxMCE on a MacMini.
LinuxMCE would be my preferred solution for a Media Center.
I already managed to run the lightweight interface.
But i want to run the UI1 whithout alpha blending. I tried to install several times before, but it looks like the Intel GMA950 has not enough power to run UI1, is this true?

Do you guys think it's possible?
Or any reasons y not?

Thanx in advance...

UI1 runs fine on Intel GMA950's as will UI2 + Overlay in most cases. But I cant say much about getting 810 onto the MacMini though.

All the best

it's good to hear that my knowledge is responsible for not getting linuxMCE to work on my MacMini :-)
I think the main problem is to install the correct Intel GMA950 Driver with direct rendering.

So at first i'll try to install the driver with direct rendering.

I hope this will fix the Problem.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi all,
i have succefully installed LinuxMCE on my MacMini 1.66 Ghz / Intel Core Duo !
I will write a small howto, and post it here probably this weekend. ;-)

Everything seems to work fine. Except the Intel 945GM still have performance issues...
The fading of the background-images from flickr is not as smooth as i expected.

Anyway, LinuxMCE looks great.

Regards,
Jochen

We have just added an Qt based Orbiter (based on Touch Orbiter) to the svn and are testing it successfully on a Mac Mini and Ubuntu 10.10...and we will test it under Windows too soon (we dont expect any problems with this). Now this is an Orbiter and not a full MD so it has some limitations. But if you just want to have an Orbiter available to you on your Mac then this really works nicely (and it flies too).

All the best

Hey Andrew,

sounds intresting.
But i want to focus on running the UI1.
I've already installed kubuntu 10.10. Looks very promising to me.
Desktop effects run smoothly.

How do i install LinuxMCE on top of Kubuntu 10.10 without crashing the whole installation ?
I've tried it several times and i always ended up with a completely broken OS

Thank you
