Hi All

I'm new to LinuxMCE, but have been running a Myth box for a number of years. However this is not the subject of this post.

I'm now in the market for a new Cellphone and thought that I would get something in preparation for planning on a LinuxMCE migration. Question I have, is the Nokia E63 (which runs Symbian OS 9.2) compatible with LinuxMCE? Or can someone suggest a similar phone at a similar price point that is compatible.

Have a good Day

Neil

Hi Neil,

Welcome to the LinuxMCE community!

Theoretically you can run Java-based Orbiter on the E63. I don't think that the native S60 Orbiter will be ported to the OS 9.2 (it even doesn't work on S60 3rd edition). Regarding to other mobile platforms. As I know the iPhone Orbiter is almost ready (but I didn't see any example of its using) and Android Orbiter is in the development. Also there is an universal web Orbiter which can work on the wide range of devices.

Sorry to hijack this thread, but can the java-based orbiter be used over wifi, or is it bluetooth only?

Cheers.

All mobile orbiter are bluetooth only atm. Mobile orbiter is available for J2ME, for some Symbian S60v1,v2 and v3 (< the last with problems due to signatures).

The web based orbiter is running over Wifi.

I spent some time to setup my E65 but without luck. So, I gave up and run JavaMO which work fine more or less :)

Thanks for the reply.

What about the N800 orbiter? Or is that a "special case"? I'm only asking because I found bluetooth slow and unresponsive using JavaMO on my mobile phone (but that is perhaps due to a crap dongle?).

The maemo orbiter is a regular Orbiter, and not a mobile Orbiter.

Thanks nite_man. I'll take that as a definite maybe. If I do end up getting it I'll have a go at making it into an orbiter at some point. The Asterisk VoIP option seems to work from what I have seen on Google.
