Disable screen saver during playback flash video
« on: April 25, 2010, 07:31:55 pm »
Hi,

Currently the only one way to watch flash video - Youtube, Google Video etc inside LinuxMCE is using web browser in the Computing. It isn't a problem. But screen saver which is activated after ~5 minutes is a problem. So, is there some way to tell screen saver do not start if menu Computing is chosen, for example, of some its submenu item?

Thank in advance.

Currently, thats governed by the screen saver timeout function in the orbiter settings. There has been work (currently in progress last time i checked) to make a Qt based webkit browser that functions properly and lets linuxmce know that a device is being used...

The only work around at the moment is to move something like on the remote or with a gyro remote to reset the screen saver time out or to raise the timeout time itself in the webadmin under orbiters.

Hi golgoj4,

Thanks for your replay. Can you, please, explain how to do that:

The problem is there is no MediaType for any of the App's you add to the Computing Menu. If a Computing App MediaType was added then it could be configured so that the screensaver never kicked in just like DVD/Video playback or TV.

It basically like your average desktop computer. Moving the gyro cause it to reset the timer on the screensaver.  If you want to change raise the amount of time,

-Navigate to web admin
-On Left side, find 'orbiters' - This takes you to a list of the orbiters.
-Find the orbiter in questions and the option 'Seconds before screen saver'
-Change it to a value you desire (note its in seconds) and update.

Should now be good to go with the raised screensaver activation time.

Also, the reason i use a gyro remote is that bringing up the on screen orbiter with a remote will cause part of the screen to be cut off and generally gets weird.

Thanks, golgoj4. Will adjust the screen saver timeout. Andrew, you're right about Media Type. But I suspect that it should be added proper plugin like it's done for Xine or Mplayer. Otherwise system cannot understand that media Flash Video is playing. A few years ago a code for Youtube plugin was added to the SVN. But it's still untouched I guess.

Yeah thats true re needing a new plugin and also a move to Webkit.

Find the orbiter in questions and the option 'Seconds before screen saver'

I cannot find such option on the Orbiter's page. There is just Timeout with two values - 600 and 600. Is that one?

Its in Wizards->Orbiters and a setting that is available for each Orbiter - its labeled 'Seconds before screen saver' and has a Default value of 600 sec's.
