performance takes a hit when starting md

I found out, when I start my MD, I need to do a reload router after its booted up, otherwise the whole system slows down to a crawl. Videoplayback on either core or MD experiences frame drops, or jumps. UI becomes totally unresponsive.
Have you guys seen that too?

I very rarely restart the MD. One of the reasons can be that a couple of devices are now back up and running and need to do "stuff". I would look at DCERouter.log and see if anything pops out.

hmm...right now mythtv doesn't seem to work at all, or lets say only sporadically. I'm out of my depth. Anyone has an idea, what I could do, where I should check?
right now nothing is working. I got internet access, but that's it. I cannot access dcerouter, no webadmin, no ssh. all I did was starting mythtv.

So I am thinking now. Should I switch over to VDR? What do you guys think. If so, do I have to reinstall everything, or can I just make a switch on the existing system?

This is more or less always happening, when I try to start mythtv. When I start it, it will run and display live tv for maybe up to one minute, then it crashes. I get all sorts of messages from mythtv..the good old "all tuners are buys" - even though I put the proper order setting. Mythcontext is complaining, that the backend has died...and so on and so forth. I try two or three times more...and a total system hangup occurs..or at least everything starts taking long enough to produce timeouts.
I think currently mythtv is not usable. Maybe I should give vdr a try again. The last time I tried that was with 7.10, so I guess there has been quite some progress. Perhaps I could even use qorbiter to control my tv with that?

The long and short is still this: None of the DEVs are using mythtv.  If you want mythtv to work properly someone (you, or others) will have to submit the required patches.  I tried to help and was effectively told off by a user.  Since that point I am loathe to touch mythtv for anyone.

We welcome patches on gitlab.

I'm sorry to hear, that you had to encounter an i***d user. your help has always been very welcome with me.
Anyways, its not the first time I hear, that none of the developers are using mythtv. However, that does beg the question, why having it included at all. Is there going to be a move to drop it entirely? I will try out vdr right now...I'm guessing some of the developers use that to watch TV...if so, then there must be a good reason for it.

MythTV was very tightly integrated into LinuxMCE. However, with changes of MythTV outside of our reach, and the move of a lot of users in the US away from broadcasted TV to Netflix and stuff, people/devs moved away from MythTV. In Europe, VDR was always a good contender, but never was, nor is, as tightly integrated into LinuxMCE.

*I* am using VDR on a daily base, and if it doesn't work, SWMBO is _very_ upset, so I try to keep it going :) - One thing about VDR that can cause issues for people with limited resources is, that it never was designed in a client/server fashion, it is not very nice in disconnecting from tuners. I run a 4x DVB-S2 system, have a core and a single used MD and things are good, but even I do sometimes have an issue of not being able to switch to a channel due to ongoing recordings. Yes, I do record too much :*)

Good to know.
I did a clean install and want to give vdr a try. Now I checked in the wiki how to set it up. It mentions there, that in webadmin->advanced>configuration->VDR-Setup, i could do that- set up VDR. However  it says there I should use commandline to configure it...is that correct?
I also saw on the screen, repeatedly: failed to get Pluto VDR.
