Thom,

Won't I still need a tuner card of some kind for my PC?  Something to plug the PVR in to?

Thanks Thom.  This is all pretty exciting stuff.  I really love Linux (though am very much a newbie) and I love my audio.  Looking forward to this marriage.

Hello,

I need a recommendation on which tuner card to put into my core.  I have all the other components identified (thanks for the help).  I am thinking of the Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-2250.  I have only 1 TV but I want to be able to watch one channel and record on another.  Is this a good choice or do you recommend something better?

Thanks for your help,  Tom

Thanks for the info.  What video card do you have?  What sound card do you have?

Thank,  Tom

I am brand new to LinuxMCE and pretty new to linux - though I love it.  My goal is to build a perfect (as much as I can afford anyway) media center box.  I would like to use a PC that I have laying around, start buying the right components, get the system up and running then buy the right server as I have more funds.

I have a Dell Optiplex GX 520.  Processor is: Processor,80551,Pentium D Smithfield For Desktops,820 2.8,BO,Server.  To start, I want to watch DVD's, Direct TV, listen to music (itunes) and record TV shows.  Will this work or do I have to toss the Dell and start from scratch?

Thanks for your help.  Tom

Installation issues / MC with current a/v system
August 08, 2010, 10:55:50 PM
I am new to the media center concept.  I have a very nice a/v system and want to know if all of my components will connect to and be seen by the MC.  For example, I have my DVD player, CD player and Direct TV box all going into my Denon receiver.  Then I come out of my receiver to the monitor and the speakers.

Separately,  I have a DVD player as input to an SAE pre-amp, then out to the two SAE power amps and then out to my JBL speakers.

These are two completely independent systems.

Will this work with LinuxMCE?  Any help pointing me in the right direction would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Tom
