Hello,

I need a recommendation on which tuner card to put into my core.  I have all the other components identified (thanks for the help).  I am thinking of the Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-2250.  I have only 1 TV but I want to be able to watch one channel and record on another.  Is this a good choice or do you recommend something better?

Thanks for your help,  Tom

For DirecTV, you will need to attach a Hauppauge HD-PVR to the USB port of either your core, or the nearest media director, and wire the component output of your DirecTV box to the HD-PVR, so the system can digitize it. You can then use a USB UIRT to control the DirecTV receiver.

Thanks Thom.  This is all pretty exciting stuff.  I really love Linux (though am very much a newbie) and I love my audio.  Looking forward to this marriage.

Thom,

Won't I still need a tuner card of some kind for my PC?  Something to plug the PVR in to?

That's what the HD-PVR is, bro.

Go google it. ;)

At CES Hauppauge announced an internal component capture that attaches to a 1xPCie for $159. I haven't seen anything else yet. these are suppossed to be functionally similar to the USB version. So you might want to wait for these to come out.
