Looking at the draft page, I can see that there could be some confusion in pages where the page has both "This page is a hack" and "The content of this article is approved."

From a users POV, does this mean that the information on the page is an approved hack?

Thinking of the bigger picture, what actual purpose is a hack page for? I can only see 2 reasons for a hack page.

• To work around something that does not operate as expected (i.e. a bug).
• To get the system to do something that it does not currently (i.e. a feature request and how to implement it.)

If a user is documenting how they got a piece of hardware to talk to the software, or documenting how they implemented a feature, I think marking the page as a "hack" does not sound right. Maybe marking it as a "Contributed How To" would be a better option.

To assist the work group and allow them to keep an eye on the wiki pages, can a daily summary of updated pages be emailed to the people that are maintaining that group of pages with a list of pages that need a review? Once reviewed, the page can be approved, updated to correct format, or rolled back. This way users can update pages to correct and expand the page live, while the work group has the ability to review the changes to ensure that they conform.

Thinking out loud, could the email have an embedded a web page with the list of updated wiki pages in the body that gets it's information from a automatically updated page on the wiki, listing the page, and the status of that page. That way the reader can see at a glance if one of the other work group team has already reviewed the page, of if they need to review the page.

Email Body e.g.

Page       Status
zwave      Approved.
x10         Awaiting Review.
Telecom   Rolled back.

Lets pretend that I insisted that the Homerun should go under TV, and you insisted that it appear under NAS We could put it in both places, just as current wiki articles can be set up to appear in "tutorials" and "hardware".

Yes good points. They could indeed exist in two places, but it would be better not to. I suppose there won't be too many examples of this, so it could just go in both, then you find what you are looking for regardless of how you go about looking for it.

Reading through this, it seems to me that we should have some sort of page tags to assist with grouping them together. This will allow for having one page that could be part of several systems.
e.g. "Some Brands Security System Model XYZ" could have the following tags (these are just some possible random ones off the top of my head, and are in no order)

• Security
  
• Video Monitoring
  
• Remote Access
  
• Lighting Control
  
• Hardware
  
• "Brand Name"
  
• Serial Interface
  
• Cellular Notifications
  
• Hack
  
• 8.10rc

Thanks for that. I have also found that this runs (by default at 3:13am) '/etc/cron.d/LMCEUpdate_DownloadXml' which basically runs this '/usr/pluto/bin/LMCEUpdate'
I've changed the time of this to run later in the day. I have also enabled and disabled flicker between these times, so will see how that goes.
I have also put in a cron to run DownloadUpdates.sh during this time as well so will have to keep an eye out in the logs for conflicts during the running window.

I'll keep looking at the other cron jobs to see what they are up to during the day and see if there is anything else that should be changed on my system to run in my window that I have.

Users / Modifying Core Maintenance Internet Download times

Due to me having un-metered internet access provided by my ISP between 6am and 8am in the morning, I am wanting to change the times that the core downloads the updates for the MD's and itself to this un-metered time.

Is there a solution already built into the core to achieve this, or will I have to edit the relevant times that the daily cron jobs run? (I have had a look on the wiki and forum but could only find information on the update process itself, not how to change it's activation time.)
If I do this manually, will the core put the config back on a reboot, or will it stay as I would like it?

On the same note, it would also be nice to change the time that it downloads the flicker images to the same window time as well. I'm not sure if this is a cron job, or something downloads when the process is active in showing images.

What other things does the core do on a timed basis that I can schedule during this time to reduce the internet use on my account?

That's the exact problem and resolution I had last night when trying to boot from PXE. Was quite disappointed that after downloading the DVD, I still had to download the PXE boot part of it.

Would it be better and more user friendly to have this installed by default, and have an on/off toggle for those that want to use it or not?

Users / MythTV to LinuxMCE Migration

Hi All

I'm in the planning stages of migrating from MythTV to LinuxMCE. I know that I will have to migrate my current file stores from my custom ones to the MCE defaults, and will have to update host names for the backend/core among other things. I'll try and keep a note of the changes I have made to create a Wiki page for others thinking about the migration.

One thing that I would like to know is, after I have migrated the backend functions from my current MythTV Backend to the MCE Core, can I connect my current Myth Frontend to the new core (once I have updated where it is to find the backend)? Or has there been to many MCE customizations for a standard MythTV Frontend to connect and work successfully?

It would be of advantage to the WAF to initially have a seamless migration (read "she has no idea it has happened") while I tune the backend and get the MD's operational.

Welcome to the LinuxMCE community!

Theoretically you can run Java-based Orbiter on the E63. I don't think that the native S60 Orbiter will be ported to the OS 9.2 (it even doesn't work on S60 3rd edition). Regarding to other mobile platforms. As I know the iPhone Orbiter is almost ready (but I didn't see any example of its using) and Android Orbiter is in the development. Also there is an universal web Orbiter which can work on the wide range of devices.

Thanks nite_man. I'll take that as a definite maybe. If I do end up getting it I'll have a go at making it into an orbiter at some point. The Asterisk VoIP option seems to work from what I have seen on Google.

Hi All

I'm new to LinuxMCE, but have been running a Myth box for a number of years. However this is not the subject of this post.

I'm now in the market for a new Cellphone and thought that I would get something in preparation for planning on a LinuxMCE migration. Question I have, is the Nokia E63 (which runs Symbian OS 9.2) compatible with LinuxMCE? Or can someone suggest a similar phone at a similar price point that is compatible.
