sad face. all i can say. bums me out to hear that we are basically suffering because of software we dont maintain. awesome :|

As MkBrown mentioned it is the fact that LinuxMCE is bundled with support for mythTV 23. I have a ceton capture card which allows me to grab all my cable directly from an m-cable card, no need to pay the cable company for any extra hardware. This works flawlessly with mythTV 26, and now with xbmc using libcmyth. The nice thing about the xbmc implementation is that xbmc handles all of the client part and lets mythTV handle serving the information / feed.

Again, I love everything about LinuxMCE and think it is much better at pretty much everything but LiveTV. The problem is the wife only cares about liveTV, and it is an area that needs to just work.

I want to thank all the developers, especially Thom for working on this system and with me on it, I hope someday to be able to contribute more time to the programming effort (2 very small children and a new job keep me from that) and hope that this issue is resolved soon so that I can go back to the system I really want running my house.

I'm sorry to say I left LinuxMCE a few months back for 1 reason, LiveTV support is just horrendous. I need something that works when it comes to LiveTV and it isn't LinuxMCE. If the wife isn't happy, then I am not allowed to play with my toys.

I miss so much about LinuxMCE and hope someday to put it back on my system. I don't mind having to get my hands dirty and figuring something out, but with a 1 year old and a 2 year old I don't have time to do more than wipe my butt in the morning. I have chatted to a few others on xbmc forum that have left for the same reason. LinuxMCE does so much more than xbmc (gui not included) but the one thing it has implemented that I need is rock solid livetv/pvr functionality.

True enough about the name, but its going to stay unless im overruled by hwmbo. I truly want some salty sea dog to design me a nice naval themed ui

But seriously, if it don't spark curiosity then Im not sure what will. And im sure if we artificially inflate the post count, people will have no choice but to look!

As far as bongos looking at it, i dont want a bongo themed ui, so im ok with losing that demographic. I forgot one rule. No beating up other contestants, launching worms to destroy their hard drives or contracting 3rd parties to launch worms to destroy their hard drives. no falcon punching other contestants, no slide, shoulder or other form of tackle not listed here also including rugby. No magnets, masters of magnetism, or manipulation of gravitational, magnetic, electrical, or electro-magnetic fields. Time travel will disqualify you. This contest is closed to luddites, calvanists, and amish. No invoking of gods, seven kingdoms or otherwise. Contestants may only sling approx 1oz of mud per day, 2 on saturdays. And of course, no sharks with lasers, mechanical or otherwise.

I pulled a 10/100 pci nic out and replaced it with a 10/100/1000 pci nic in the same pci slot.

Over the weekend I decided to upgrade the internal nic on my core to a 1G intel pro 1000. I edited the rules for eth0 and eth1 so that they pointed to the correct cards, I have my /etc/network/interfaces all set up correctly and when I run ifconfig, everything is setup and ip addresses are as expected. eth0 gets an ip from my service provider and eth1(new intel pro 1000) is set to 192.168.80.1.

My problem is dhcp is no longer working, so none of my MD's boot anymore? Any ideas? Is DHCP tied to the mac address of the nic? And therefore tied to the nic I removed?

Not only that but it seems to be more responsive, faster.

Ok lets revisit my first post. At that point in time I had loaded alsa 1.0.24, nvidia 260 and had edited my asound.conf to pass hdmi to the NVidia chipset. At that point I could get sound through mythtv only when playing through linuxmce. If I went to the KDE desktop and started xine I could open a movie and an audio mp3 and I would have sound just fine.  After I installed nvidia-current, I get no sound from any videos, whether through linuxmce or through KDE and now I have no sound in mythtv either.

So the question I have is this, before I loaded nvidia-current why could I get sound ok in KDE Xine but get nothing through Xine in Linuxmce? What is differnet besides the xine.conf that is used in each instance?

The funny thing is, I had them working a while back and for the life of me forgot how ? I guess the big question is why can't I get to AVWizard anymore?

In that case I have no sound in any of those, just when playing music. I figured running AVWizard again would fix things after installing the new drivers but I can't get it to run

no sound in myth or regular video in xine. I assume when you say xine you are talking about when ran through linuxmce, not from KDE.

ok loaded nvidia- current. Now have music that i can hear. But no audio in mplayer and get a failure audio device busy or not available  when i try to play a movie. Tried to rerun avwizard. But it wont start.

Posde don't get me wrong, I am in no way upset at your suggestion. You are correct about time being the only thing needed. I will try and get something together when I have time. My first priority is my family. Then second is to get the MD working in my kids room, which I am having the HDMI sound issues on. Once that's done I will take a look at putting something together. I'll try and research some different HTPC skins that are out there and come up with something. The sad thing is I used to work at 2 companies where I had access to some very talented Graphic Designers that really could have put something snazzy together, Me I am a developer which automatically makes me graphically challenged.
