Users / Newbie needs help - Stuck in Xconsole.
July 20, 2008, 10:52:38 PM
As a newbie to Linux, and linuxMCE, I have been experimenting with the OS as most do. Especially in the xconsole as I am trying the old school approach so to speak. Going back to the command line. Anyway, I know this is a stupid question, but once one gets in xconsole, (CTR + ALT + F1) how do you get back to the GUI. I'm learning Linux on the fly, and could also use a on-line command reference as I am totally a novice when it comes to Linux. I have the book Linux Complete, but it is more built around Red Hat, and is a pretty tough read for a newbie such as myself. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Thanks Folks:
You have already been a great help, and as this is very new for me, I'll attempt to search first then ask questions. I will say that this MCE flat blows away MS-MCE. The main reason I want to convert so to speak is I got tired of losing my thumbnails every time another MS-MCE log onto my video files on the server. I just happened to stumble on LMCE and so far I'm impressed. The configuration is a little tougher, but as I said, it's a learning curve.

Thanks Again:

You'll have to excuse my ignorance, as I'm completely new to Linux, and my burner is on a Win XP machine, so first off, what is a torrent, and I will assume it doesn't work with Windows. I have 7.04 working on another machine now, however am having issues getting it to configure. (Another post) with no burner.

Needless to say this is turning into quite a learning curve, but the interface is fantastic, so going to keep working on it.

Thanks

After trying several listed site, they are either far to slow, or they time out. Does anyone know a reliable and fast site I can acquire this ISO.

Linux MCE 710 RC1 DVD

Thanks

Hello Everyone:
Recently I installed the Linuxes_0704_Quick_Install_DVD.iso (After burning of course) on a clean dual Xeon PC-DL Mother board with a Win-TV-150, 2 gig ram, 200 Gig HD, and a Nvidia 6400 GC with component out to a 42" plasma. I want my TV source to be a Std. Satellite Receiver. After installing the MCE comes up no problem. Running the Wizard, none of the devices came up. Now, that being said, I'd like to say I am about as green to Linux as they come. Through trial and error I managed to get the PVR-150 to come up in the wizard. (Port / PVR-150 / Core) after installing in the MCE Admin site. Got the DVD working after installing the DVD CSS. So the only issues I have left is getting MythTV to use the PVR-150, and install the Satellite box, and get it to work on Myth TV. Oh yeah, having problems with getting the guide to download also.

Anyway, is there a file, or "How to" on installing devices and getting them to work? Or if any of you can help I would really appreciate it.

Thanks
