i also have a samsung (although a different model) and had pretty bad overscan problems.  I found that there is a 'service mode' that allows many adjustments to be made to the picture that are not accessible using the normal menu. 

for my TV, to enter the service menu start with the TV off then enter

Mute-1-8-2-Power

on the remote.

From there, you can play aruond with things like x and y axis adjustments, screen size and position etc...

hope it works for your TV as well.

sure, if you use the Advanced tab and choose KDE desktop, it will open a full screen Kubuntu desktop from which you can run all the kubuntu applications.  The LMCE window remains but that can be minimized or you can simply switch to and work from another workspace.

okay so I got the 1080i going again.  It looks alright, but it still seems slower to respond, especially when scrolling through media.  Using Top, I can see that Xorg is consistently using 93-97% of the CPU.  Andrew, is there something I can change here to reduce the CPU demand?

i have a 6200, connected over DVI (maybe that was the issue) and it was very sluggish, although i have not had it set up like that since b3, I will fool around with it today and see if it is better now.

but, if you go with the gyro mouse/remote keyboard from gyration (which I picked up for less than the price of the fiire remote) it is easy to use the computing section of LMCE....

I fire up a CD, click over to computing and use email and the web....with no problems

i have since switched back to 720p but I will dig up the old xorg.conf and post it this weekend.  maybe even give it a try again myself....although as I said, the UI was almost unusably slow....

if it is simply media storage, it shouldn't make any difference at all.  it would probably be easiest to leave it as one large partition...

I searched online for a 1080i modeline for my TV and changed the xorg.conf file accordingly. 

the following wiki pages were also helpful.

I also have a 1080i TV and manually set LMCE up with 1080i....the picture was great but the UI was very sluggish..I found it more annoying than it was worth

i just read through the post and maybe I am misunderstanding but the $3 sensors referred to in the video were simply motion detectors, they did nothing to control the lights.  for that you will need remote switches with X10, insteon and zwave the names that get tossed around here a lot.  unfortunately all are a lot more than three dollars per outlet/lightswitch. 

www.smarthome.com seems to have a big selection and can at least give you ballpark estimates of what things cost...

By all means feel free to leave me out of this crypto-fascist bullcrap. 

I really can't be bothered to read a 20 page rulebook written by someone who feels these things are so important he probably already broke most of his own "rules".

see...now i feel uplifted... 

and on a serious note, of course one should first search for previous posts on the same topic, but I think we should be very tolerant of some of these repetative questions, first because the SMF search function sorta sucks and secondly because it gives some of the newer, less knowledgable members (like me) a shot at answering some questions thereby getting them involved and reinforcing their own familiarity

I can assure you that adjusting the modeline did have a dramatic effect on my nvidia graphics card output, but that is easy enough to check, just make a big change in your modeline, restart X and see if you notice a difference..

this is a pretty generic suggestion but have you googled for your TV model and 'modeline'?

you could potentially find an ideal setting for your specific set and then manually change the xorg.conf file.
