Users / Re: Proposed forum rules

i think there should be tolerance for chattiness, fun and stupid questions.  These are some of the things that add to the attitude of:

We have a very supportive community that serves up heavy doses of support, encouragement and enthusiasm. We love meeting new people and making new friends.

Wikis are where one should look for 'justs the facts' whereas a forum works well for building community as well as exchanging information.

It is important to have threads that work as conversations, not simply technical discussions.

so i will even add a smiley  ;D (despite the unneccessary use of server space.)

the gyration keyboard works out of the box (and quite well), although the mouse function is in the gyro mouse not built into the keyboard....

Yes, you could leave Box 1 alone and still access the media on it.

although it is impossible to guess how long it would take to boot up LMCE on your machine (you gave us no specs and even then.....)I can say from my experience that a cold boot in only 40 secs is probably a bit optimistic.

there are several threads on using windows mce remotes, I would search for that specifically if you had questions.  I don't have one but I think they are being used by others with no problems.

my question though is, if you don't want to take advantage of all the elements of LMCE that make it more capable than WindowsMCE and the WinMCE is working for you, why try to jam LMCE into a role it wasn't really designed to play?

Installation issues / Re: Issues with 0710 RC
« on: April 29, 2008, 01:24:08 pm »
domodude,
I had posted about that a while ago, when I first install b3.  I never got an answer (and have never gotten the voip working) but now I am glad to see that I am not the only one!

One small thing that I have noticed is that when manually inserting coverart using the 'apply to all files in this directory' feature, I am able to upload it from a file but not using the URL, in other words it does not download the jpg from the web address.   If I download the coverart to my desktop first and then use 'choose file' it works just fine.

I used the normal LMCE volume adjustment.  And interestingly the white bar indicating how loud the volume should be was at the max, but when I moved that gyro over to the right, it increased. (the volume, not the indicator bar)

I did notice that after I installed RC1 that somehow my LMCE volume had been set all the way down.  My stereo is not controlled by LMCE and I usually just use the stereo remote for volume adjustment, so it took about five minutes of feeling confused before I thought to check the LMCE volume control.

I just completed the upgrade and all my media was left intact, including any attributes and cover art.  So i guess that answers my question.

thanks for the reply but the wiki page mentions nothing about media, the 'helper application' is labeled as i386 (i run an amd64) and all the pic links are broken.  So unfortunately it did not answer the question....

If I upgrade from 0710b4 to 0710 RC and use the DVD for AMD64 and the 'Keep Settings' option, will my media that is currently on the harddrive with LMCE be maintained as well or should I move everything to another harddrive before the upgrade?

the only thing that I am unable to grasp is why, if I am within wireless range of my PC and/or TV, would i choose to watch the shows on my phone?

When I access my LMCE core via Samba with my Mac, I have a similar issue.  But only with my Leopard machine.  The additional drives show up as shortcuts which result in an error when clicked.  I can, however, open them all with my Mac running Tiger.

So i have written it off as another one of the numerous problems that the Leopard upgrade installed on my Mac.  maybe we will be luckier with 10.5.3

Users / Disappearing Firefox Window
« on: April 18, 2008, 12:29:16 pm »
I have noticed that while watching Youtube or Googlevideo videos with LMCE (using the "Computing" from the "Advanced" menu)  that the Window will disappear after 5-7 minutes.  The videos sound will still be present but I am left with nothing other than the flickr image and the two buttons in the bottom corners of the screen.  anyone know how to prevent this?
