Users / system won't start - no orbiters
« on: September 30, 2007, 11:11:24 pm »
I think I've dug myself into a pretty deep hole trying to get my core server working again. For some reason, after doing a restart it wouldn't come back up again, telling me it was unable to generate a skin for my orbiter. After messing around with it for a while, I went into the web admin interface and removed both my orbiters, in hopes it would regenerate those automatically upon restart of my system.
However, that actually did even more damage. Right now, the launch manager will start, but after doing some of it's usual initialization the log window will start printing the following message every two seconds:

Not waiting for OrbiterGen - there is no Orbiter at this PC

Even worse, this seems to lock up the Lauch Manager window entirely, because none of the buttons (such as Open admin website, all the tabs, etc) respond anymore. I can't get into the KDE desktop either...
I can still get command line access by starting my system in recovery mode, but I have no idea what to run or what configuration file to edit to get my system up again. How can I regenerate a working orbiter for my core system?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
thanks

Users / Re: Sprinklers support ?

I don't have any answers, but I'm also very interested in finding out how to get this set up with LinuxMCE. I have the Rain8 X10 controller. I came across this product recently:

http://www.cyber-rain.com/Default.aspx

it's a computer controlled wireless sprinkler system that downloads the local weather forecast (or seasonal averages) to calculate your watering schedules. I've been walking around with the idea to code the same type of functionality for my own Rain8 controller for a while, since long before I ran into this product, but have just never had time to develop this myself. If a similar control interface like this could be integrated with LinuxMCE (but generic, so it can work with any irrigation controller and doesn't require the expensive cyber-rain), that would be a dream come true for me.

I would probably buy the cyber-rain even if there's no way it can be integrated with LinuxMCE, but unfortunately the windows-only software is a dealbreaker to me... :( I only use Mac/Linux these days.

Users / Re: trendnet as generic ip camera (and gsd) problem

not sure what your problem is exactly... I have a Trendnet IP camera which I got to work with ZoneMinder, but I haven't tried to get it running with LinuxMCE yet. You might want to try the
http://x.x.x.x/VIDEO.CGI
or
http://x.x.x.x/MJPEG.CGI
urls though, as they will actually return a video stream - the image.jpg url you tried returns only a single image. I have the Trendnet TV-IP400W and reverse engineered much of the control protocol (mostly for pan/tilt/zoom control from ZoneMinder or other applications). Check out my blog, there may be info there that will help you get it running.
