I can't believe nobody has mentioned the potential to integrate CO/smoke detectors into LinuxMCE.  This could potentially let the system alert everyone in the house where a fire is, see the fire via webcam, and even automatically call the fire department/police/etc.

Support for these should be added to LinuxMCE.  From what I've read it's Bluetooth 2.0 and the battery lasts about a month.  Would make a great MD controller.

Hi all,

http://onedollarlinux.com/product_info.php?cPath=21_37&products_id=143&osCsid=1d12808e93793a6c6b4b279a2b3d2dc2

Does this mean really 0710 released on 31th of januari ??

Dave
The 30th of January is just a date they put in since a release date is not set.  Whenever 0710 is released, the preorders will be shipped.

Anyone know if 0710 will be released in the same forms as 0704?  (as in a Quick Install DVD and a 2-CD Installer)  Or will we see come other kind of installer?

I'm experiencing the same problem in 0704, only with a -6 instead of -13.  Any idea what this error means?

Users / Re: DHCP through wireless router WAN->LAN

yeah, as long as they have the correct gateway and dns server entries they will. do you have enough ports for it all? when you say it was successfully connected to the wan port did you mean you were able to access the router from linuxmce?
Tried plugging it in to the LAN port and everything works great, yes i could access the router from the core before but now its all working smoothly

thanks for the help

it doesnt go into the wan port. just plug it into a lan port.
will all the machines be able to access the net through it that way?

Users / DHCP through wireless router WAN->LAN
« on: November 30, 2007, 01:46:43 am »
I just setup a core machine with dual NICs, one is connected to the cable modem and the other is connected to the WAN port on my wireless router.  The problem is, while the router is successfully connected to the core, the machines connected to the router cannot receive DHCP from the core.  What do I need to set or open in my router so that machines can receive IPs from the core on the WAN port of the router?

Cable Modem -> Core machine -> DI-624 router -> Other PCs

Compatible Products & Services / Re: $250 Diskless MD
« on: November 28, 2007, 10:23:23 pm »
Just out of curiosity, how many of you would buy or consider buying a thin client MD with the following specs:

Intel Celeron 420 Conroe-L 1.6GHz LGA 775 Processor
512MB DDR400 RAM
Geforce 6200 GPU (DVI, VGA, and S-video outputs)
20X DVD+-RW DL
MicroATX case Picture

For $250 this machine would cost $249 less than Fiire's cheapest MD, making it appealing to more users.

How many of you would purchase one of these?

I would suggest going for a socket AM2 + onboard 6150 mobo for reduced heat and better performance for I would think a similar price.
Thanks for the suggestion.  I shopped around and came up with this setup for the same price +/- $1.
Gigabyte AM2 MB (DVI, VGA, HDMI, SPDIF) More details
AMD Sempron 1.9GHz Socket AM2 45W Processor
1GB DDR2-800 RAM
Same case and DVD drive

Any takers for $250?

LinuxMCE CDs and DVDs are available here for $1/each and $2/each respectively.  Shipping is $5 flat rate.  This may be a good option for users needing their CD/DVDs quickly or in large numbers.

NOTE: If you are not in a hurry and can spend a few more dollars, get your DVDs through the non-profit on the LinuxMCE hoempage to help support LinuxMCE
