I stumbled onto this from the SYSTM Wired house video podcast. http://revision3.com/systm/wihome/ (this is the link to the podcast) The wired house had a nice pc dashboard that made energy usage very accessible. http://www.luciddesigngroup.com/products_irisloggers.php   The IRIS logger looks like it might fit in with this conversation.

I am not sure about the mobo, but everything else looks good for the core. The MSI vid card is nvidia should work fine. Capture card is well supported. I am not sure about rosewill nics and linux.

Only thing on the MD I am not sure about is the Video.  Please let us know how you make out with HDMI.

With the projector mounted on the ceiling aren't you going to get someone to run outlet to the ceiling?
I'd go up through the wall and if you have an attic right above great it will make it easier. I have seen wireless vga around, but you would still need to plug it in and I am not sure how good it is. (relating to interference)

I might be wrong but I am pretty sure all the inputs on a Hauppauge are going in no video out. You can use your video cards svideo to output video to the tvs.

Thom - Do you know if the Powerfile C200's can play 2 dvd's at once? (they have two drives right?)

I followed your gentoo-wiki link and it didn't work.

I searched and found this. I think this is the one you are speaking of.

Most SBLive hardware works very well in linux. You can check the HCL over at linuxquestions.org http://www.linuxquestions.org/hcl/showcat.php/cat/81

Most of the SBLIVE cards get 10 ratings which means they normally work flawlessly without a problem.

You sure all of you connections are right?
Do you have your receiver on the right optical input? (if you have multiple inputs)
You are sure you unmuted it in Alsa?

Sounds like you tried everything I would try.

Have you tried it with any other linux distros? if not, try a Linux livecd (my favs are Sabayon - MINT - PCLinuxOS) and see if you can get it to work.
Your sure the card works?
What ASUS mobo you have?

Blair

Still looking for a dvd changer. With the XL1B3 and R200 outside of my budget.
My alternatives are a refurb Xl1B2 or a Powerfile C200.
I just want to use it to be able to watch my DVD collection from my MD's. (changer connected to core)
I am leaning towards the c200 because its used and not refurbished.
Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Blair

Using the nokia 770, or another portable device as an orbiter tends to make more sense when you're doing full house control.

I ended up selling my Nokia 770 and buying the Nokia 800. The wifi is better on the 800.(not flaky like the 770 IMHO)

Agreed no real point in the in case touch screen. At least not for me I am lazy.

If you are looking for a cheap case. The Antec New Soltion NSK2480 is nice. Its a little on the "big" side but it is a solid HTPC case. Its basicalyl the fusion without the VFD. Check around I got mine from zipzoomfly (link below) but at the time they also had a $30.00 rebate going.

I am pretty sure if you buy this you get the mobo as part of the barebones setup.

The case instructions are bad. Download from the Antec site if you need them.

Let me how you make out.

Thanks.

I have been sick the last couple days and haven't had time to devote to it.
I installed lcdproc via apt-get and changed the LCDd.conf settings and that didn't do anything for me.

I tried the standalone imon driver, but it gave me an error right off the bat with the kernel headers not being in /udr/src/linux (/linux doesn't exist)

It looks like people have it working I think it might beyond my grasp. I will keep trying.

I installed lirc and lirc-modules-sources via apt and modprobed lirc-imon.
I did echo -n "hello" /dev/lcd0 and got a permission denied.
I found a german site that showed me how chmod the dev/lcd0 so I had permission, but then it just said device is busy when I tried to echo to device.

I am still sick and now a little frustrated.  >:(

I'll have some time this weekend to try again.

Blair

I was pretty tired by the time i posted that last night. the M/B PWR and GND wires are so the unit can power on via remote.

Not an option I care about so the will remain unattached. For those that want that feature look here. Found the answer in the support FAQ.

http://www.antec.com/us/support_roductInfo_FAQ.php?Qnumber=12&FAQno=24

also in the support FAQ:

I want to run the VFD with Linux. Can I?
A Linux driver for the Soundgraph iMON-compatible VFD included in your Fusion case is available at http://venky.ws/projects/imon/#standalone

I hope to have a pic of the VFD working for you soon.

If someone has the antec fusion can you please let me know where the MIB PWR + GND connect?
The Antec Manual is garbage. Almost missed where I had to plug in the 3pin from the 24pin power cable.

 I am using a asus m2npv-vm mobo.
Wishing I bought a sata dvd writer for this build. (would have  made cable management a little easier.
