I must say I agree with Zearc is this matter as well.  All I see is Zaerc trying to be helpful by adding a comment to a wiki page (which the author asked for), and then this Trout character decided to come along and attack Zaerc.  If you want to be an admin of the wiki you should behave in a professional manner and not attack people publicly on a wiki page.  If you disagree with a post you should PM the author about removing it, not publicly berating him/her.

This kind of activity definately discourages me from making any contributions to the wiki.  Also, I find it interesting that the person who is telling Zaerc his contributions are wrong has a grand total of 14 posts and 6 of them are from this thread.  Compare this to Zaerc's 426 and I think we can see who is giving better contributions to linuxMCE.  Zaerc has help me out with a comment on more than one occasion.

Users / Port Forwarding

Can someone please explain to me how to forward ports to other computers on my network?  I want to be able to access my NAS admin site from outside the network so I set it up to accept port 85.  I am able to access it by going to 192.168.80.235:85 so I know that part works.  Now I went to the firewall settings on the pluto admin site and did the following:

protocol: tcp
source port: 85 to 85
Destination port: 85
Destination IP: 192.168.80.235 (ip of NAS)
Rule Type: port_forward
Limit to IP: [blank]

With these settings I can't access the NAS from outside the network by going to www.myaddress.com:85.  I also tried reloading the router and that didn't work.

Any ideas?


PS:  I am also having trouble with the ports needed for torrentflux installed on the core, but I want to get the NAS ports working first.

Users / "FileServer has been added" message keeps popping up

I have added a NAS and MD to my network and my core recognized them and is using them without any problems except one.  The little blue box in the upper left corner keeps popping up every few seconds letting me know that the MD or FileServer device has been added.  Why does this keep happening?  It is really annoying.

The MySQL login is 'root' and the password is blank.  I just installed torrentflux this way and it worked.

I think we are talking about different things.  My array is on the core, so it doesn't have any problems mounting it every time i reboot.  It just removes it from the list of shared folders.

I am also experiencing weird activity while transferring files to the core over the network.  When I have the share set up and I begin transferring files to it, it works ok for about 5 minutes and then freezes and I can't reconnect to the share.  I go back to the core and click on view IP address on the lmce launcher and i get an error saying it can't get IP.  It's like transferring files causes the core to lose connection.  And the only way to get it back is to restart.  Also, when this happens, sometimes the core goes to a black screen and start spitting out the error: "EXT3-fs error (device sdd1): ext3_find_entry: reading directory # 6987695865" over and over again

Users / Shared folders disappearing and network weirdness

I have just set up a software RAID array using the pluto admin page.  I want to share some of the directories on this array on my samba network.  I set it up and it works great until i restart the core.  Whenever I restart the share disappears and I have to set it up again in System Settings.  Anyone else have this problem or know how to fix this?

SOLVED!  I figured out the reason why the pluto raid wasn't working was because I hadn't partitioned and formatted the hard drives yet.  I did this with fdisk and now it works like a charm.

I just reset the MD and selected 480p as the resolution.  I am realizing now that the screen is just shifted to the left.  This normally wouldn't be a problem with most monitors, because you can shift it with the monitor settings, but my projector doesn't allow for this.  Is there any way i can shift the screen over?

I tried in the audio/video setup wizard, but everything looks fine in the wizard, but once it reboots after i close the wizard it is back to being shifted over.

Actually when I am adjusting the arrows, there is space on top and bottom, but when the wizard is done it just goes back to filling the whole screen with the extra off to the left.  The native resolution of the projector is 854x480.

yes, it is wider than 16:9.  in order to see all the arrows i have to shrink the screen and shift it to the right, but then there is space at the top and bottom.

I had a similar issue on the install of a MD that I did - it was caused by selecting a resolution that was too big for the monitor. The video card supported it but the monitor dealt with it by making a virtual screen and only using the resolution that it supported.
I have no idea why that would be triggered by the audio part of the setup though

I am having the same problem with an MD I just added.  When I go through the audio video wizard, the resolution starts out ok, but as soon as I select a resolution I get strange things happening.  Mostly what happens is the resolution is stretched past the left side of the screen.  Even when I try to make adjustments in the wizard this happens.  I am using the onboard nvidia 6150 video and a 16:9 projector.

I also want to create an MD that isn't diskless.  I tried using the quick install DVD and it automatically installs it as a core.  Do I need to use the install CDs instead?

I'm pretty sure it is DNS problems.  The ip's work fine, but pinging url's don't work.  I changed the dns servers on the core to use opendns, but that didn't help the other computers on the network.  I had to change the DNS servers on each individual computer to get it to work properly.  Is there a way to not have to configure each computer?

I know I will only get 2/3 capicity with 3 disks, but I plan on adding more in the future.  3 disks is just the minimum.  I'm going to lose at least one disk's capacity if I want any kind of array with redundancy.  I have 6 SATA connections for my array, so it will eventually have 6 disks with 5/6 capacity.  With a total of 2.5TB
