Users / Port Forwarding
« on: September 25, 2007, 07:12:19 am »
Can someone please explain to me how to forward ports to other computers on my network?  I want to be able to access my NAS admin site from outside the network so I set it up to accept port 85.  I am able to access it by going to 192.168.80.235:85 so I know that part works.  Now I went to the firewall settings on the pluto admin site and did the following:

protocol: tcp
source port: 85 to 85
Destination port: 85
Destination IP: 192.168.80.235 (ip of NAS)
Rule Type: port_forward
Limit to IP: [blank]

With these settings I can't access the NAS from outside the network by going to www.myaddress.com:85.  I also tried reloading the router and that didn't work.

Any ideas?

PS:  I am also having trouble with the ports needed for torrentflux installed on the core, but I want to get the NAS ports working first.

Users / "FileServer has been added" message keeps popping up
« on: September 24, 2007, 06:53:55 pm »
I have added a NAS and MD to my network and my core recognized them and is using them without any problems except one.  The little blue box in the upper left corner keeps popping up every few seconds letting me know that the MD or FileServer device has been added.  Why does this keep happening?  It is really annoying.

Users / Shared folders disappearing and network weirdness
« on: September 21, 2007, 08:49:43 pm »
I have just set up a software RAID array using the pluto admin page.  I want to share some of the directories on this array on my samba network.  I set it up and it works great until i restart the core.  Whenever I restart the share disappears and I have to set it up again in System Settings.  Anyone else have this problem or know how to fix this?

Users / Intermittant Internet
« on: September 16, 2007, 06:28:05 am »
I have linuxmce set up as my DHCP server, but I have having trouble with getting a connection with the other computers on the network.  The Windows XP computer says it in connected, while browsing the internet, it seems to only intermittently connect to the internet.  Sometimes pages load, sometimes they don't.

Anyone have any ideas why this could be happening?

Installation issues / RAID setup
« on: September 16, 2007, 01:04:03 am »
So I now have the system up and running, but I am having issues setting up my RAID array.  I have 3 500GB sata drives I want to use.  In the RAID config page I create a RAID array and then it gives me the add drive option.  The strange thing is that in the drive drop down it has the 3 drives, but one is 500GB and the other two say 1000GB.  That was weird but I decided just to add them all to the array anyway.  When I do that and click 'Create RAID Array', the Status column reads 'DEGRADED, REBUILDING'.  Then when I click 'Back' it goes back to the main RAID config page and the Status now reads FAILED.

Any ideas?

Do I need to format the disks at all?  They used to be in a hardware raid setup formatted in NTFS.  I have turned off the hardware raid in my bios and was thinking I would just reformat the drive and build a new array for linuxMCE.

EDIT:  Do I need to use SW RAID or can I use the HW RAID on my mobo?  If I can, how do i set that up in lmce.

Installation issues / Install Issue
« on: September 15, 2007, 07:19:56 pm »
I am trying to install linuxMCE and when I select the option to install, I get the following error:

[   43.178235] ..MP-BIOS bug: 8254 timer not connencted to IO-APIC
[   43.356966] Kernel panic - not syncing: IO-APIC + timer doesn't work! Boot with apic+debug and send report.  Then try booting with the 'noapic' option
[   43.357002]

I then try and install using the the 'noapic' option and it boots and extracts everything, but then when it tries to boot again after I take the DVD out of the drive, I get the dame error.

Anyone know what the problem is?

I am using a DFI Lanparty NF590 mobo

Users / How should my media be organized?
« on: September 14, 2007, 01:59:17 am »
I have a windows server that contains all of my media and it is shared on my network.  What is the best way to organize it for use by linuxMCE?  For example, right now I have all of my movies in xvid format all in one directory on the server.  Should each movie be in a separate directory?  Also, a few movies have their own directories because they have a direct show subtitle file with it.  How will linuxMCE handle this?

Another question I have is about the other data I have on my server.  Some of it is just applications, games, utilies, etc. (i.e. not media).  Can I specify which directories linuxMCE should look for media in?

Users / Help with specific setup
« on: September 12, 2007, 12:54:12 am »
I am really excited to set up a linuxMCE configuration.  I want to be sure the setup I have is compatible.  The biggest question I have is this: I currently have a Windows XP system that I use as a media/ftp/web server.  I want to use this as a core linuxMCE system.  The system has a raid 5 array that is used to store all of my media.  The OS is on a separate HDD.  Can I install linuxMCE on the separate HDD and have it recognize the raid 5 array?  The array is in NTFS format.

I already have a ton of media on the array and I don't want to have to start fresh.  What are my options?

Here are the specs on the system:

DFI LANPARTY UT NF590 SLI-M2R/G AM2 NVIDIA nForce 590 SLI MCP ATX AMD Motherboard
COOLER MASTER eXtreme RP-500-PCAR ATX from factor 12V V2.01 500W Power Supply
OCZ Gold 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)
AMD AM2 +3800 CPU

Installation issues / Orbiter failed to setup transparency?
« on: March 24, 2007, 07:43:08 pm »
I have installed linuxmce, but when it starts up i get a gray screen and then an error message "Orbiter failed to setup transparencey. Please check if the transparency manager is running."  I click 'OK' and it closes the error message and I am back at the gray screen and I can't do anything.  Anyone else have this problem or know how to fix it?
