« on: April 01, 2010, 11:04:31 am »
Do me eyes decieve me or did I just read that 810 is being scrapped and all is being rolled back???
Does this mean I will have to do a fresh install with 710??

You are reading correct. The amount of bugs that got introduced by the devs into the codebase since we took the source from Pluto is just too big. We rolled back and will start fresh.

No this is serious (honest)...several of the devs have purchased VAX 11/750's on eBay and going forwards this will be the platform of choice. Yes a Core built around the good 'ole 11/750 will not be as compact  or that energy efficient but these machines are built to last and they make excellent door stops too.

:-[ :-[ What does the hardware have to do with the current version being dropped? Also you have to be joking about the VAX 11/750!!
Them things will need a room of their own to operate  :-\

Also should I revert back to a 710 install??

nothing can bring down a LinuxMCE VAX cluster... not even ringing the door bell, watching TV, using the toilet and answering calls at the same time..

One of the reasons we are really thinking about going the VMS route, apart from the stability, is the availability of a built in heating. Using the VAX would help lower the average heating expenses of a house hold by at least 10-15%. And, for larger installation, a cluster of the 3 VAXes could be use to get even higher savings.

Your 100% right. Theses babies will take anything you throw at them. There nothing like feeling 'the earth move' when the heads move on a 200 RL-02 hard drive packs as UpdateMedia fires up...

The advances LinuxMCE has been making are astonding not only does it do everything in the home it now provides a new means of "free" energy... you guys should apply for a green energy grant, it could help towards development!!  :D

There are so many ways the VAX can be discretely installed around the house... this ones is cunningly disguised as washing machine http://computer-refuge.org/compcollect/dec/vax/11750/my11750-big.jpg
