HVR 1600 in Beta2
« on: March 16, 2010, 02:58:57 am »
I was curious if anyone has had any luck installing an HVR 1600 in Beta2.  I had a good install running, then I installed by HVR 1600 and haven't been able to get MCE to load since.  This is on my hybrid machine.  My box will load to a point where it asks for my dcerouter login, but will not let me login.

I followed the instructions from here:
http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Hauppauge_HVR-1600#Workaround_for_NVIDIA_restricted_driver_users
but I'm still not having any luck.

Am I just blind and missing the forum or wiki pages that show me how to get this card working?

As always, thanks in advance for the help - you guys are the best!

I'm working to get the HVR-1600 working, but found out that my card was bad.  I just mailed it back to Hauppauge and should get it back early next week.  I'll let you know if it works.   To determine that the hardware was bad, I installed it using Windowx XP SP3 with the WinTV V7 application from Hauppauge.

I have Hauppage HVR 1600 working wonderful under 8.10.

You already have followed wiki for the card although there is no need. because, the device is now plug and play since we have device template for the card.

Remember, you will get only digital tuner get working. for some reason we dont have analogue tuner working.

Most important, if you are using nvidia card, you need to change vmalloc=256M value in your boot/grub/menu.lst file.
please visit this thread : http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1043884

Hope this helps.

Oh forgot to tell you, since you are not able to login, try taking it off the system. Boot up. from KDE desktop change your vmalloc value. shut down. throw the card in and boot up again. ;) Listen, dont give up. dont return, the card is great. works like a charm.

Yes the vmalloc for the nvidia card needs to get allocated

once that is done lmce will boot with no problems and the card will get detected

Thanks

I'm still trying to get the HVR 1600 card to work.   Can you give me a link directly into the mythtv.org wiki that I could follow to get it to work?
Thank you.

http://mythtv.org/wiki/Hauppauge_HVR-1600

Here is the link for 1600 set up. just follow the link from backend setup. People say V4L drivers are better but I am still using IVTV. You can choose either and play around.

A little word : do not set up via sara. I am not using device template for the card. I followed this tutorial to setup my tuner card.

Hope that helps. Let me know.

Thanks. and take it easy.
