No DVD decryption software
« on: February 05, 2010, 10:46:28 pm »
During the installation when it gets to Sarah, there wasn't any software to be added (libraries for viewing and coping dvd's). So I just went ahead with the setup. When I tried to play a dvd, LMCE couldn't and replied it didn't have the libraries to do so. How can I get the dvd library software?

dvdcss should be installed automatically.
Which enable playback of dvd´s except ripping of dvd´s with the new copy protection scheme.

I agree that it should be installed. In 7.10 you had to select it during the Sarah part of the install. I going to re-install LMCE.

I'm also on a new install now and cannot get it working. Could this be related to ksmserver error and something is not being installed? http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=9541.0

Same result on 2nd install....no decryption software to load. I tried Kezza'a link:

http://wiki.linuxmce.com/index.php/Restricted_Software_Installation_Guide

but still no luck even after it says it has been loaded. I can play a dvd that has been decrypted.

From shell do.

sudo apt-get install libdvdcss2

and to be able to play windows media files do

sudo apt-get install w32codecs

After it above is installed you can can play encrypted dvds and watch windows media files.

I thought this was taken care of automatically now so I have
not tested it until today with a new install.

Cheers Niz, that did the trick. Remember doing that from old install now. Will update wiki to reflect.
