HD Homerun Help
« on: January 26, 2010, 02:22:48 am »
I have mythtv 0.22 on 810 b2 running with a HD Homerun on the network here in Oz and I am feeding the same signal into both tuners how can I utilise both tuners i.e. one MD uses one tuner and another MD uses the other one....little bit confused have done a channel scan in mythtv setup and both tuners find the same channels......I was thinking I will have to rename the double up's something like ABC HDTV and ABC HDTV-1 so I can distinguish between the tuners. As usual any help is much appreciated

Mythtv should do that automatically.  Md1 should use the first available tuner.  Md 2 the second and so forth.

Beeker you should not have to do that.  Scanning on one is good for both.  Just use the same source for both tuners and you will be good to go.

Thanks Mythified I will give that I try.............would you mind clarifying a couple more things for me as I will have to add a 3rd MD soon

1. So if I am watching one channel on a MD in the family room then in theory I should be able to watch a different channel on MD in the Bedroom
2. I assuming then both should be able to be recorded at the same time
3. If so what happens if the kids then start up a 3rd MD in the bedroom and want to watch TV do they just get a msg that TV is "not available" until the tuners become available or I assume they could stop the recordings and start watching live TV.
4. Most important question so I can better understand the architecture of the system can more than 2 x MD directors use the one HD Homerun at the same time or am I going to have to buy more, as I would like to be able to at least record one program whilst watching another on the Family room MD whilst the kids are watching live TV in there room
5. Lastly if I am at work and the family are currently watching two different channels on different MD's and I want to use Mythweb to record my favorite show at the same time can I select that program and start recording it, or do I have to set some priority within mythtv or is someone at home watching there channel suddenly going to see my channel whilst it is recording.

Sorry for the number of questions though once I better understand the limitations I will be able to use the system to it's full advantage. just got to get better digital reception as I live on the side of a mountain surrounded by pine trees and the reception is a bit dodgy at times.

Cheers and thanks again for your advice

Hey Beeker,

Curious about the homerun in Aus. I have an internal card but have issues with a few channels (including SBS and ABC - worst luck!).

I get good reception on the Samsung HDTV when I use the internal TV tuner, but when I use MythTV both my PCI cards seem to have problems. I was thinking an external tuner might do the trick (less interference etc), and while the homerun looks a little pricy it might be just what I need.

Have you had time to form an opinion yet on how well it integrates with LMCE in Aus?

wombiroller,

I'm in Aus & have a HDHomeRun.
I'm in a bit of a TV black spot & have found reception is significantly better with the HDHomeRun than any of the PCI or USB tuners I have used previously.

Regards,
Josh

Thanks Lemming and MANDINGO. I'll be on IRC later to take you up on that offer! Hopefully PCI is good enough, if not at least I know my options... :)

GOOD questions Beeker... I am a newbie (trying to get pasted this) and would like to know the answer to these questions too.  I have ordered a HD Homerun from Newegg and should have it here Friday.

I have been reading through the Wiki... good stuff!  This video is awesome if you have not yet seen it:

Thanks to all!

I live in the hills in Melbourne Victoria and all the main Melbourne TV transmitters are on top the Mt Dandenong, I am on the side of this mountain literally 400mtrs from the towers but just below and behind them so all we get from them digital reflections so when you use a spectrum analyser you get all the channels but the bit error rate is over the top, so at the moment I have mounted a phased array on the roof and pointed it at Bendigo TV transmitters which are over 200kms away and I pick up Digital TV from there. After reading the forums on the HD Homerun it seemed that it had better tuners than most other available options but so far my TVIX M-5130 box works better as the HD Homerun keeps losing lock so it is a bit frustrating. I am currently looking at putting up another antenna in a pine tree at the front of the house pointing at Como in South Yarra near the CBD so I can get a stronger signal and then most of my problems should disappear. Just for the records my son works at JB HIFI here in Melbourne and so I was able to pick up the HD Homerun for $200.00

So I am awaiting the answers from Mythified before going any further as our household is reliant on watching TV so I want to make sue we have everything set up correctly.
