Hi,

my current Reciever is as far as I can tell "giving up on me".
Therefore I am looking for a new one that can be controlled by LinuxMCE - either by RS-232, network or whatever. Pricing should be around 500€ (or less).

It should have 7.1 (only will need 5.1 now) and possibly decode the new Bluray HD audio fomats.

Attached to it right now is only one MD with optivcal out. Plans are getting an Acer Revo (or ASUS eeebox) with HDMI out later.

The Yamaha RX-VXX00 were recommended here http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=6699.0
But thats a year ago and maybe things have changed. And they either don't decode DTS HD and the other formats or don't fit in the pricing scheme (500€).

Greetings
Viking

Any of the Denon range of AV Receivers can be completely controlled - we use these often in installations.

the denon avr1910 has all you want and you should be able to find it at that price point too.
I am on the same quest to upgrade my receiver and like the sound from the denons. Won't be making the plunge till next year so if you go first let us know what you pick!

A USB Serial adapter will work or you can use a small IP based serial server (the GC100 is such a device...but there are numerous others that just create IP addressable serial ports) and then locate your Amp anywhere you can run some CAT5.

All the best

...and speaking of receivers...
I have plasma in my livingroom and I'm planning to add a projector as well. I will not have the need to use the plasma and the projector at the same time as the screen will cover the plasma... I just want to be able to choose either the plasma or the projector.

How can this be solved?

There are receivers with 2 HDMI out but they are few and expensive. Imho, the one with best value for money is the Marantz 6004. Not sure if it can be controled by LinuxMCE though.

Are there other options?
Some sort of controlable HDMI-switch perhaps?
Graphic board with 2 x HDMI out?
HDMI + DVI out from MD?

Or is there an obvious simple solution that I just don't see...?

Yes this can be done. Most current AV Receivers have multiple HDMI inputs and a single HDMI monitor output. This HDMI monitor output can be routed through a 1-2 HDMI switcher with RS232 control and the appropriate output can be switched to when either the Projector or Plasma is required. This will need some device templates and scenarios to be created and possibly some other additions to allow for each type of display to be selected or to have that sensed in someway automatically...maybe if the projector is 'off' the system would automatically default to the Plasma.... etc etc

All the best

Andrew,

What are you using to control the Denon receiver's volume?  In 7.10 I could control the volume of the Denon using my Gyration remote, but can no longer do so.  This is on the core though.

Thanks,
James

Hi
I looked at the specs of the Denon 1910 and couldn't find anything about a rs232 interface.

Hi, I think you have to move up to the 2310 to get the RS232 interface. Reasonable price on that one as well I would say.

The 1910 has no RS232...it has IR though.

We dont use Gyration remotes so I cant comment on those. It could be a aide effect of Tom's new HID code...there's a thread on that somewhere. Do a search.

Apart from that once you have IR or RS232 control setup you can use a local IR remote on the Core, an IR Remote on an MD, a Nokia with orbiter software installed...just select the room you want to control (ie the one where the Amplifiers is located) in the Orbiter and you can do anything you could do if you were standing in front of the MD in that room controlling it directly.

All courtesy of the power of DCE :-)

So "Any of the Denon range of AV Receivers can be completely controlled" means they can then be controlled by IR ?

Viking,

every Denon receiver can be controlled via IR, i.e. USB-UIRT or IRTrans.

A lot of the Denon receiver have RS-232 ports as well. The Denon homepage is very informative re finding out, which ones do have RS-232 ports.
