Hi Andrew,

I am considering buying a new LED TV next year, what are the requirements for it to be compatible with UPnP-AV?
Because i can find tv's with dlna capabilities but not with UPnP-AV or is UPnP a part of dlna?
Somehow the tv-manufactures don't advertise or put it in their specs that the tv is compatible with UPnP-AV.

Hi Raymond,

Some manufacturers do obscure there support for UPnP and refer to the support they have in their products using either custom 'branding' or sometimes will just use dlna as way of describing the capabilities of their products.

DLNA defines "interoperability guidelines" and does not define a technology standard as such (like UPnP). One of the key ingredients of DLNA is UPnP however (more specifically 'UPnP AV' and 'UPnP Device Architecture'). In many ways DLNA is an unnecessary confusion for most end-users but many companies in the audio/video industry has used it when describing product capabilities. Hopefully the url's below will be helpful to you and anyone else grappling with how to make sure a new product does what they think it does;

This is the best resource that we know of currently for informaton about what products conform to the various UPnP profiles;
http://upnp.org/sdcps-and-certification/certification/certified-product-registry/

This database is a little 'stale' but might be also be helpful to you;

Congratulations on your Dianemo 10.10 release!
Is there a video showing the new features and differences, like UPnP?

My wife had a good question, one I'm ashamed to say I hadn't thought of: what sort of update options are available after the initial 12 months?

Thanks

Right now the answer is no there isn't...we've been too busy porting porting our 7.10 release over to 10.10. A lot of the new features are 'under the hood' ones that remove an enormous amount of legacy code from the Pluto days. The main big user feature is the UPnP capabilities...and we think this is big one...but in many ways the changes you dont see are even more important as they allow us to run on much more modern hardware and support many new improved API's and will allow us to move to 11.04 in July too :-)

...but some video is a great idea and we will have some video available asap on Youtube. I'll post here when we have.

Thanks

Andrew

Well you will continue to receive updates & fixes for as long as your hardware will support the enhancements we introduce. With more emphasis now being placed on the Core...or NerveCentre in Dianemo 'speak' we expect the basic hardware to be supported in terms of new capabilities and features 4+ years at least (and probably longer). Beyond that your NC will continue to function for the lifetime of the hardware. But as with any hardware eventually it will fail or not have features that are needed possibly to run some future release.

My own home system for example was a 5 year old unit until about two months ago...I upgraded to a newer unit as part of our testing of some new hardware.

The bottom line is we will not switch-off software updates to your system and they will remain free for the lifetime of your hardware.

All the best

Dianemo 10.10 software update - MythTV 0.24
« Reply #113 on: February 07, 2011, 03:19:59 pm »
We will push an update to all Dianemo 10.10 installations later this week that updates the current MythTV 0.23 to MythTV 0.24. Your Dianemo 10.10 installation will receive this update automatically and therefore no action is required apart from a reboot once it is applied.

This will fix a number of issues relating to Myth's internal http & UPnP servers that would often leave the MythTV back-end & MythWeb in an unresponsive state.

All the best

Hi Andrew,

Regarding the new UPnP code, which will be implemented in Lmce.
Will this code also support Samsung's AllShare™, to control the TV and use as media renderer?

thanks in advance,
br,
Raymond

Well it will be down to how complete Samsungs UPnP/DLNA support is.

Dianemo 10.10 - Browse & Stream from UPnP servers to portable UPnP Devices
« Reply #119 on: March 13, 2011, 02:24:51 pm »
With UPnP integration we now have the possibility to do some exciting things with servers, Control Points & Renderers;

- Browse interactively for any UPnP servers on the LAN side of your NC.
This means that you can stream content not just from your NC's storage devices but also from any other UPnP server on you LAN to any UPnP render on your LAN. A new Media Server button will be added to the Home Menu to support this.

- Add a portable device as a Media Renderer ie Android device, iOS Device or any other device/OS with UPnP Renderer Apps installed.
This will mean you can be running an Orbiter app on your portable device and have it stream media to a UPnP Renderer App running on the same device giving integrated control a media playback on the same device ie iOS, Android devices.

The above should be in the next UPnP update.

All the best
