I just received my eagerly awaited NC200 machine from Dianemo. It rattles, and won't boot on power up. It's Friday, so no answer from the vendor's telephone number.

Anyone else had problems with this company?

Thanks

Latest update on this. I was told to open the machine to see what was loose inside. Found the HDD cage and two hard drives adrift. It looks like the cage wasn't secured before the unit was shipped. One of the SATA cables loose on the mother board. I didn't look any further but sent an email and am waiting for a reply.

Hi Mic,

If that's the case then I am very sorry you received your NC in that condition. It is possible for drive cages to be shaken out of their mountings but its very rare. If he hasn't already I have asked Win to respond to your email today so we can rectify the issue for you.

Please accept our apologies for your inconvenience.

Andrew,
So far no response, although I realise it is the weekend.
I still have not received the list of approved hardware that you have tested and will work with this system, so I can't order any Media directors. Can you provide the list to me? I've had this system for two weeks now, and still no hardware listing.
All I have received in documentation is a email with two attachements after I pointed out that no documentation came with it.

One of the reasons I bought this system was that you state that the system will work out of the box using your tested hardware, and that you support and document everything.
So far, I would have been better off building my own system using Linuxmce, and getting support from the forums. Their documentation is better than anything I have received from your company, and the hardware would at least be up and running now.

Hi again Mic,

Our Media Manager hardware compatibility list is available in the Forum here (see the table in the middle of the initial post from me);  http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=8880.0

Most technical docs available in the LinuxMCE wiki will still apply to Cascade systems too and of course in many areas we have fixed or improved standard features/capabilities. Where we have specifically different capabilities or API's that have been extended or modified - such as how we control external devices or create new device templates for example we will support you with docs or remote access support (ie we might setup an external audio amplifier so that it is controlled by your system and bby example assist you in understanding how to do that task yourself - if thats of interest to you of course).

Again I am extremely sorry for the problems you have had with your system and we will rectify them asap.

All the best

Hi mic-man,

just to ease up your pain, I just spent _more than hundred hours_ figuring it out how to control a "simple" serial device. What you have still might not be instantly fully working for every scenario, but what I understand, the services from the company are extremely good and you should be in good hands. The DIY+forum way sure is not the easiest one!

Have a happy time with LMCE.

Latest and Final update on this. CHT paid to ship the damaged machine back to them for evaluation and shipped a new machine which I received within days - great service.
The people at CHT have been great, providing support above and beyond their system and approved hardware. And the system runs flawlessly.
If anyone reading this is thinking about buying this system, don't hesitate. It is a great system, and the support is first class.

Cascade & Dianemo now support SoftAudio outputs ie Squeezeslave - this is a soft Squeezebox. Create as many audio Zones as you have sound cards for...supports USB/PCI audio cards, add them to MM's & your NC. Add 2,3,4 or more Audio zones by attaching low cost USB audio adapters to your MM's (tested with 6 x USB Audio cards & ripped DVD streaming from NC on a single Acer Revo). Full setup/admin capability provided from Wed Admin to create/edit manage SoftAudio outputs.

Now supports USB SoftAudio outputs upto 25m from the Media Manager or NerveCentre using USB-CAT5e adapters - this adds a lot of flexibility as to how/where you locate the SoftAudio outputs. Tuck them discretely behind an existing Audio System or use them to drive powered in-ceiling speakers are just two of the many possibilities.

All the best

Andrew

Is Squeezebox feature also available in latest LinuxMCE 0810?

A simple version can be achieved using the notes on this wiki page; http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Squeezeslave_on_the_core

In dianemo however we have extended this so that adding AZC's (Audio Zone Controllers) as we call them to your NC or MM's is very easy and automated. We also auto-manage the multiple soundcards for you so that once you have associated a given sound card to an AZC the association remains in place between reboots or even if you add more sound cards to the NC or MM.

New Web Orbiter released - supports iPhone, iPod Touch & iPad
« Reply #74 on: July 02, 2010, 09:51:37 am »
We have just released the first version of our completely re-written Web Orbiter. The new Web Orbiter uses javascript and an new version of proxy_orbiter to make on-screen updates as smooth as they are in a full Orbiter. The new Web Orbiter now uses a light weight process that checks a new flag in the proxy-orbiter that indicates that something has needs an update - only then does the Web orbiter re-draw its screen and because we double buffer that update in javascript (in the browser) the update appears instant and there is no on-screen refresh visible.

The new Web Orbiter imposes far less stress on your nerveCentre and on your LAN due to its new architecture and this translates into in-use performance which is very close to a normal Orbiter.

The Web Orbiter is compatible with FireFox 3.0 & above, Chrome and Safari. We provide screen resolution support for iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad and Web Orbiter is fully support on the Apple products and I have to say they make fantastic touch based Orbiters :-)

All the best
