Orbital in java/web for other os's

(1/1)

archived:
how about a java orbital or something so it's posible to use the orbital like on laptop or a mac osx

We don't have yet a version written in java, but you can use our Orbiter under Windows XP (written in C++) to run it on your laptop.
You could try recompile our orbiter to run under mac osx. We don't have a mac here, so we cannot test it.

Yep.. java would be an excelent option...and recently Sun released the Java Source code to the Open source community, i think that it will became much faster in the future..
but Java r0x.. there is no need to have windows XP on an OpenSource powered house ;)

so, if you dont have any java version yet, the mobile orbiter is coded in C++ ?

back later :)

Yes, an Orbiter written in java would be nice, but it will take a lot to implement and maintain. The big problem will be to keep C++ sources and java sources in sync (adding a feature in C++ will need same modification in java code). Also, adding/modifying a command/event to Orbiter will need a modification made manually in java code to adapt DCE; so a code generator for java would be needed too.

For an Orbiter Mobile, we'll need to port BD commands from C++ to java and keep them in sync, but this will be easier that an "desktop" Orbiter.

Anyway, I would gladly support an Orbiter written in java, so if you need help for this, I'm here to help.

Cristian Miron
