Hello everyone,

Following on the lessons and mistakes made with the Slate skin, I have finished (minus needed fixes) the sister skin to Slate...

Titanium.

Titanium is an example of a skin that is simply a graphic replacement. I did not go into Designer AT ALL. The total time to complete it to this point was 18 hours.

Titanium will become the default skin for LinuxMCE-0810, replacing the Basic skin.

Some example shots:

http://www.localeconcept.com/pub/titanium-screenies/07-morescenarios.jpg
http://www.localeconcept.com/pub/titanium-screenies/08-floorplan.jpg

Titanium is available in several variations, which change the data grid colour. In addition to Titanium Blue, there is:

http://www.localeconcept.com/pub/titanium-screenies/titanium-green.jpg
http://www.localeconcept.com/pub/titanium-screenies/titanium-orange.jpg

http://www.localeconcept.com/pub/titanium-screenies/titanium-purple.jpg
http://www.localeconcept.com/pub/titanium-screenies/titanium-silver.jpg

and even one that i modelled from a green apple. :)
http://www.localeconcept.com/pub/titanium-screenies/titanium-apple.jpg

I still have to do a matching UI2 variation.

I am also doing research work to come up with a colour scheme and line aesthetic that will render nicely on very small displays such as the mobile phones, the cisco IP phones, portable game players, etc. that Orbiter can render and display.

Now with Titanium done, I will go back and re-do Slate, so that there are complimentary sister light and dark skins to please most aesthetic wants for default skins.

I hope this ultimately proves that:

* Pluto's layout and form weren't bad, the colours and textures were.
* Anyone with 20 hours to spare, can do a complete skin graft for Orbiter.

What do you all think?

Thanks Thom, in my opinion lmce is beginning to have a more crisp, professionally developed, proprietary software look to it! especially the titanium purple variation. Thanks.  ;D

Just thought of one thing that I've always considered a bit odd. Is there an inside margin within each button background, which will never contain letters or an icon? For example, "Speed dial" has letters from the far left to the far right, a very tight fit. "Phone book" does not, it was put on two lines. Perhaps if is possible to use e.g. 95% of the full button width, when the need for a newline is evaluated?

Domodude,

The width parameters for the text can be adjusted in designer, or a quick fix would be to change the names in the scenario editor. Instead of on a single line having:

Speed dial

Put it on two lines:

Speed
dial

hit update, and voila, problem solved. The text will actually center itself because of the existing object settings.

Love it :-)

A great demonstration of how much you can do purely within the bit map files.

Nice work!

Looks very good! How it can be installed? In the next release of 0820 alpha?

Regarding the color of the current skin I agree. It's extremely hard to read black letters on the dark green background in the media file browser. I made replacement for that background. The modified images can be downloaded here. Just copy them to the into /usr/pluto/orbiter/skins/Basic/menu2/Buttons/Media/. If you don't like that color you can easily replace it by desire one using GIMP function select by color, for example.

It will be installed as the next release of 0810 alpha. Any new orbiters created will have the Titanium Blue skin selected, with the ability to select others simply by changing the skin and regenerating.
