Install issues on a new machine
« on: September 08, 2009, 01:30:19 am »
Hi,
I downloaded and used the DVD install disc on an OLD Dell machine that's about 5-6 years old and had no issues, but as a server, it was too slow so I bought a new machine and Kubuntu won't install using either the DVD method or the CD with just Kubuntu on it.  It kicks me right to the BusyBox screen with the initramfs prompt.  Can anyone give me any insight into the reason?

Here are the new machine specs:
A790GXM-A AM2+/AM2 AMD 790GX HDMI ATX AMD Motherboard
AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ Windsor 3.0GHz 2 x 1MB L2 Cache Socket AM2 125W Dual-Core Processor
Hauppauge WinTV-HVR 1800 MCE Kit 1128 PCI-Express x1 Interface
CORSAIR XMS2 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Desktop Memory Model TWIN2X4096-8500C5C G (2 sets for 8GB)
LITE-ON Black 18X DVD-ROM 48X CD-ROM IDE DVD-ROM Drive Model iHDP118-04

Hoping to use this as an A/V server, PVR, home automation and security.

Thanks!

Hi,

If you are trying to use 710 on "newly released hardware" you are running into incompatability troubles.

710 is old and doesn't have ant of the necessary "drivers" for you "new" hardware.

You should be trying the 810 alpha release.

Cheers.
