DVB-t card for MPEG-4

Hello!

I need a DVB-t card to work with the norwegian tv-network, riks-tv. It uses MPEG-4/H.264 and AAC-HE sound. I already have tried Hauppauge Nova-T-500, but it is unstable.

Do you have any advice?

Is it possible to use Digital Everywhere FloppyDTV-T/CI?

The FloppyDTV only has early experimental support in v4l. See here; http://www.linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/DVB-T_IEEE1394_Devices

So none of their cards will be Plug-n-Play currently.

Hi Gaute,

The problem is the decoding, assuming that you want more than just the free-to-air channels(NRK 1,2,3).

Just about any DVB-T card will receive the signal and output the mpeg stream, no matter what encoding is used in the broadcast. But without decrypting encoded channels.

I have used a Hauppage HVR-4000 to successfully receive the NRK channels, but for the other channels, you need to use a card which can use a CAM from the provider. I think I have seen the FloppyDTV mentioned as a way of getting this to work, as you may have seen elsewhere. Haven't tried though.

I know I only can watch the free-to-air channels.

If the HVR-4000-HD (Hauppauge! WinTV-HVR4000-HD, Hybrid) works for you (on norwegian network?), maybe I go for it...

Hi

Yes, the HVR4000 works, but I had to compile the drivers myself, as they are not included in the 710 kernel. I saw some talk about them being in the 2.6.28 kernel, but I haven't checked it out lately. Your best bet would be to do some research on the linuxtv.org website.

Also note that I don't use this card to view dvb-t daily, so I can't say anything about stability. I've just tried it a few times. It is very stable for dvb-s though.

You also need a recent version of xine/mplayer to be able to view the stream, as it's using the video/audio codec you mentioned.

And none of this will be plug-and-play in 710, you have been warned
