Hi all,

Having a DigitalEverywher DVB-S2 card I need to compile my own patched kernel to use it.

What is the best way/order to follow during LinuxMCE install:
Kubuntu 810 install > Custom kernel > LinuxMCE 810 or Kubuntu 810 install > LinuxMCE 810 > Custom Kernel ?

Same question with latest drivers version I need too: Alsa, NVidia, etc. After or before running installation scripts?

Do the linuxMCE install scripts interact with the core OS ?

Thanks,
Nick

I you haven't already  please read the FAQ.
The current version of linuxmce runs on top of kubuntu 0710
0810 is in alpha and would not suggest it for noob's

Hi Tim,

Thanks for your reply, but the FAQ, unless I didn't read the good one, do not answer my questions.
I know that 810 still in an alpha release that's why I posted under the "Developers" forum in order to understand how exactly LinuxMCE is interacting with the core OS (i.e. Kubuntu).

However, as much of my Hardware is not even compatible officially compatible with a normal installation of Kubuntu 8.10, I will still have to customize my LinuxMCE installation.

Thanks,
Nick

Ok,

Having crawling the installation script and packages provided by LinuxMCE repository, it looks that lirc should be customize/upgrade after the the installation. Same thing about upgrading the kernel as some modules are already compile/prepared for the 2.6.27-11 version from Kubuntu 810.

I will give a try and let you know. it will probably open a place for new hardware compatibility list, at least for mine! ;)

Nick

Hi all,

The interesting page on the Wiki is: http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Upgrading_the_Kernel

New NVidia driver, Audio over HDMI, and my FloppyDTV DVBS-S2 are working well after upgrding kernel plus drivers.

However LinuxMCE frontend don't start anymore automatically. How can I start it manually?

Thanks,
Nick
