Cant connect bluetooth device
« on: February 26, 2009, 09:43:47 pm »
Hello im a new LMCE user and im having problem connecting my cellphone to LMCE via bluetooth. I have tried connecting my phone to the BT dongle in winxp, kubuntu, ubuntu and it have worked nicely. LMCE detects the device, but only says it is unable to connect to it when it tries to send the LMCE software to it. So..

1. Im sure there are some nice guide with instructions to how I should look for problems and solve them so you could just link me there if im a waste of time. Otherwise I could explain the problem more in details.

2. Do I really need this software that LMCE is trying to send?

3. Im a big newbie when it comes to wireless communication, so please dont laugh if its a silly question. So I watched videos of LMCE, what do I need to be able to steer the mouse with just moving the controller (the phone). Is bluetooth dongle able to detect movement by itself? or do I need some kind of tracking device?

Oh boy, lots of assumptions... Let's untangle this.

You need to use a supported cell phone in order to use a cell phone as a mobile orbiter. This currently means:

* Symbian S60 series phones. Currently in 0710, only v1 and v2 are supported, an example phone is my Nokia N70.
* Windows Smartphone based phones. (We have versions for 2003 and 2005)
* Phones with Java enabled and Bluetooth support in Java (called JSR-082).. This orbiter must currently be installed manually.

As for the cell phone itself, the bluetooth dongle can not detect cell phone movements, so it's not like waving a gyro-mouse. You select items with your number keys on the phone.

Hey dude I had to jump in here and save you from the wrath of certain people on this board.

"The W960i is a 3G and Wi-Fi mobile with a touchscreen-controlled interface. It uses the Symbian UIQ smartphone platform."

If you want to check which phones are s60 v1 and v2:

Be very careful of what you post. The majority of the people on this board a very nice and willing to help, but there are a few who will jump on you and it will become a flame war (search the forums), especially if you don't read the wiki or search the forums.

thats okay, stupid questions require stupid answers i guess, I expected no less. I admit I havent searched the wiki and forums properly. I simply searched for 'bluetooth' and got bored after reading 10 post with did not relate to my problem so I thought I maybe get some consistent information through social interation on the forums.

The links were very helpful thanks!
