Feature Request "Video Clips"
« on: January 26, 2009, 05:31:20 pm »
After  playing with bookmarks last night I thought wouldn't it be nice to add an end point.  It already has a start point.

This would in essence make a video clip.

Great to turn concerts into music videos and make your home movies into "worlds funniest videos"

We could add those to play-lists combined with music entries would  be great imho

Thoughts?

Interesting idea, but it belongs in the "feature requests" section and is therefore moved.

Tim - can you expand on what you achieved? I haven't really played with bookmarks that much, so I'm not sure how you intend to use them.

Specifically - 1) aren't bookmarks only exposed from within playing a video file, in other words you have to start playing the video file first and then jump to the book mark, or let it jump to the one/only "start" bookmark on its own. 2) when the video file starts, you still see it play the beginning of the video for a second and then jump, don't you think this is pretty messy?

On point 1, it would be interesting if the bookmarks could be exposed as a "media type" perhaps as children of the media itself, in a way that allows you to add them to a playlist - then you could pick 2 or three "clips" from this video, several from that, and mix them all up into a play list for replay....

I was just thinking last night about this, and it would be great for TV series on DVD. My wife is in love with Sex and the City, we have the DVD collection on MCE, however to watch and episode she has to click on say.. Season 2 disc 3, then use the DVD menu to find the episode. It would be nice to bookmark the start of each episode and have each bookmark named, episode 1, 2, 3 etc and she could just click on the episode she wanted without having to first navigate to the disk.

Of course this would only work if like Collin mentioned, you didnt have to open the Disc to get to the bookmark.

If I am not mistaken you can already do this.

If you go to options you can select to display bookmarks.
Start Points are easy..

My suggestion would just add the end point. so you would have a bookmark start and end. essentially creating a clip.
