Any Star Trek TNG fans out there... UI 1 Skin Idea
« on: December 23, 2008, 02:21:13 pm »
If I had the means I would do this, but I don't... thats why I am here. I am interested in creating a new UI 1 skin based on a computer interface for Star Trek TNG. I am a huge Star Trek fan and I just think this would be awesome. I would even be willing to pay someone to make this for me and teach me how to install it.

here is a pic of an example.

fearingsept,

as the going rate for an individual you are looking for is around 200USD, and you are looking for at least 2 man-month of work, imagine the price tag.

Apart from that, look at the screencasts done by tschak. They are very helpful, and will get you started.

After doing some further reading in the wiki I believe I can actually accomplish what I am looking for on my own. It will basically be the same size icons but new color scheme and icon look. I will post screen shots when finished if anyone is interested.

fearingsept,

exactly. For starters that is the correct way to go about doing it. You might want to watch the screencasts anyhow, and maybe find one or the other pointer that will help you decide what route to take. They are not that long :) and VERY helpful.

That's really neat actually. I was a big Star Trek: TNG fan. I have a bunch of collector plates here too. In a box. lol

Well it is coming along nicely actually.
I will post an actual screen shot when I am done. I did a mockup but it is saved on my work computer. I am in the process of starting my test run.

----update-----
Nevermind.. I fixed it... I needed to do a full regen from the admin screen.

-----------------
Can someone tell me what this means?
Quote
The directory name is the same as the Description record in the "Skins" table. OrbiterGen will use the new graphics if they exist, and will revert to the graphics in "Basic" if they don't. You don't need to completely replace every graphic, just the ones you want.

Where do I find the actual skins directory that I am looking for?
I have backed up my basic file and then edited some of the graphics in the basic file located under the skins directory. When I go to regen my orbiters nothing changes... I have to be doing something wrong... How do I get my new graphics to load?

I am having a hard time locating the button template for the menu options such as TV, Video, etc... Does anyone know what file they are located in? I don't see them in the buttons folder.

If you look in Designer, open the individual button arrays, and then open the child inside them. This will get you the button arrays you need.

I go over this in my....second skin screencast, I believe.

You must watch the first set, before the second set, as there are basics that must be understood.

a-yup, that's awesome :D

You can set font styles for skins. Fonts are automatically assumed to exist in /usr/share/fonts/truetype/msttcorefonts I believe. I can't verify from here...

But you can get the appropriate font and put it in the StyleVariation table to get even closer.
