New LinuxMCE release?
« on: October 31, 2008, 03:31:00 pm »
Hello all,

will there be a new LinuxMCE release soon? :)

Because the version 704 isn't one of the latest any more. :(

We did release 0710 in May. And are gearing up to release 0810 when it's ready (there is an alpha of 0804 that's available on the wiki, but we skipped over it for the final.)

The current release is LinuxMCE-0710 ;-)

There will be a LinuxMCE-0810 release but a release date for that has not been announced yet

Oh, sorry ;)

I have meant the version 0710...

Is there still a long time to the LinuxMCE-0810 release?

depends on many factors. A pre-alpha will be available soon. We were already working with intrepid prereleases. There are still many things to do. Wanna help?

Hari,

Regarding your question about help to user "entertain", I don't have LMCE yet, and like "entertain", I don't code and can't say I have deep experience w/ Linux.  I do work for a Cable TV/Internet/phone provider in the USA, and am part of development for set-top boxes and various business systems, and other areas that relate to this project.

I would be interested in helping, I'm just not sure where to start.

Is there a good "to do" list that is available for us that are new to LinuxMCE development can try to find a part we can tackle.

If nothing else, many of us can work on the wiki side to make sure the documentation is current, and possibly try to extend it.

One area of interest is the lirq database of codes. I have a ATI USB Remote Wonder that i believe just needs codes mapped for better functionality (or the documentation needs updating as I must not have configure right if there is more than just mouse control.)

Another area I would be interested in is getting the screen saver to pull from local a little easier (little kids and the flickr feed is too unpredictable.)  Or other areas like FrameChannel.

Thanks to the many developers out there.

You could start by reading the Wiki Programmers Guide, but any work on the wiki would be good - things change and it needs constant attention, plenty of people would thank you for that!

Also, on screen saver 1) it is very easy to disable Flickr, just go into the Web Admin, Files and Media menu, Screen Saver and there is a button there to disable it. 2) Any pictures you have in LMCE can easily be marked as eligible for the screen saver, and then it will cycle through your own photos randomly. They do not have to be in the same folder, just marked for screen saver.

I am using the ATI USB Remote Wonder presently, and except for the mouse functionality, it works mostly.  There are a few things I have in mind to change, but it is usable as is.

All I have is mouse control.  The media functionality doesn't seem to work for me (most buttons don't seem to work) how did you get it setup.  Maybe I can contrast with what I did, and then update the wiki to get past my issues.

Thanks
Chris
