Sony VAIO XL1B3 Jukebox failure

My Jukebox has spontaneously decided that the optical drive will no longer respond to commands at all. The changer element still works, but the Powerfile_C200 driver gets confused because it can't find the data drive attached to the changer.... The drive, curiously, is not showing up in /proc/scsi/scsi after successive reboots, and power-offs of both the media director it is attached to, or to the changer itself.

Interestingly enough, my backup XL1B3 unit seems to work fine, it detected it and started using it without a problem.. Is there any way to jog the optical drive, to reset it? any tricks anyone knows? argggg this is just not my night at all. :-(

Given how expensive those are (especially the powerfile versions) they are remarkably flakey. I went through three dual drive units that became parts machines to make one working one. You might check the internal cables. There are lots of them.
Fortunately Sony is selling them for $200 on the web site.

Thom,

There's a weath of knowledge on the "Unofficial VGP-XL1B2 Thread"
including - "Alignment issues with VGP-XL1B - how to fix" at:

I have had issues with the jukebox, but it now seems to be working.

Thom - did you ever get your Powerfile working again? And how have you found it since?
