Andrew,
Read your post about modding aviwizard to get the graphics chip detected correctly. Will that cure the freezing problem?

Amirul

Hmmm... yes and no is the answer!

The changes to the AVwizard allow 720p to be configured correctly from the VGA connector. However there are some issues that in the Intel graphics driver that seem to be triggered by running at 720p resolutions and above. 800x600 is not problem and also 1024x768 is ok too... but 720p will often cause X to lockup. This appears to have been fixed in later revisions of the Intel drivers but they are not back portable to kernel 2.6.22 as they require kernel 2.6.24 and above.

As a test we have installed LinuxMCE-0710 on a Core running Kubuntu-8.04 and kernel 2.6.24 and have the onboard GMA3100 running fine at 720p on an Intel i965 motherboard. We will leave that running over the weekend to see if it is stable and if all is well we will add an ATOM i945/GMA950 machine to this Core as an MD on Monday and see if the problem is fixed there too.

All the best

Andrew

Ok then, I'll await what Monday brings. If this works out I'll be getting a bunch of cheap diskless Atom boxes for the new house.
