Change UI choice from terminal?
« on: July 06, 2008, 04:19:18 am »
Hey Everybody-

I've just done a clean install from a dvd to an old computer I had lying around.  The install went fine and I had initially setup the system to use UI1 (I'm using onboard video for the moment).  I was able to view and use the menu system just fine.  Then I wanted to see if the system could run the UI2 interface.  The test button did absolutely nothing for all three UIs (it was just a black screen) so I just chose UI2 to see if it would work.  Now when the system boots up I see the menu's for 1 second before being dumped to the terminal.  I have tried searching the forums and the web to figure out if I can somehow use the terminal to navigate to a place where I can change the UI choice.

Can I initiate the launch manager from the terminal?

Is that even what I need to try to do?

As a side question, can I get to the Kubuntu desktop from the terminal?  would that in anyway help my situation?

help. . .please. . .
Thanks

PeteK

Reboot and hold down the shift key when you hear the beeps (or keep it down if you don't have a PC speaker).  That should bring you back to the AV setup menu where you can re-select UI1.
