he finally got back to me and goods have arrived. :)

Now since this thing is a transmitter and receiver how should it be placed, because it needs to face the person with the remote but also face the entertainment unit to transmit to the other devices...

so red led facing the couch or the unit?

Get a small Xantech Emitter, and plug it into the USB_UIRT on one side, and glue it onto the IR receiver of the AV gear to be controlled.

My UIRT works just fine pointing into the room (red led towards the couch) without the Xantech emitters.  Of course, ymmv, if you have issues you should use the Xantech emitters as posde suggests.  Try it.

Bought one of these from Zug at the end of last year - works a treat.
Now I can use any remote in the lounge to control my XBMC setup.
Pleasure doing business with you (sorry it's taken me so long to post reply,
too busy playing with new toys ;D)
