Hi, I am totally new to this..

It says on the website that I need X10 to control the lights..  There is a link directed to x10.com...  But the problem is, i do not even know what x10 is.. Can someone post an image of the thing i have to buy please??   The links on the wiki should point to the thing we have to buy, not juste the main website....

thanks.

X10 is one of many lighting control standards that LinuxMCE supports. We also support:

* Z-Wave
* Insteon
* PLCBUS
* EIB / KNX

and many others.

What you need, depends on the particular lighting buss, you wish to find. Google is a good friend here, and can help you find stores that sell these particular devices.

Depending on the lighting system chosen, you will need to get

* modules for each light, either in the form of plug-in modules for lamps, or switches for light fixtures.
* a Master Controller
* a Computer Interface

Once you have these things, you can configure LinuxMCE to use them via the Setup Wizard, or the Web Admin.

Hello malarie.  There are a bunch of wiki pages to help you with that.

search for Home Automation at wiki.linuxmce.org

Depending on where you are, there are different choices.. X10 is a very old protocol, and although it's cheap, it doesn't work near as well as xwave or Insteon..
If you are in Europe, you can get PLCBUS, which is a middle ground between X10 and Zwave..

The only intuitive interface is the nipple.  After that it's all learned.
My other computer is your windows box.
I'm out of my mind.  Back in 5 minutes.
Q:  What's Red and smells like blue paint?

A:  Red Paint.
