problem with two different DVB cards: TT1500PCI and Nova S-Plus PCI

Hello,

I hope you can help me with a driver problem... I already searched the internet and as far I can read that both of my cards should work without doing anything manually...

I have two DVB-S cards: A Hauppauge Nova S-Plus PCI (should work with cx88, budget-ci) and a Technotrend 1500 PCI (ttpci).

The Hauppauge card is recognised during system startup, but there is an error:

It is trying to do something with the TechnoTrend card as well:

The Technotrend card I wanted to set up with "sudo modprobe dvb-ttpci" - after that dmesg shows:

But after all, The Hauppauge card only shows up as /dev/video0, and there is no directory /dev/dvb. udev is running.

I am now using the 7.10 release. I already tried downloading and installing the latest V4L drivers - no change.

HISTORY: With 7.10b3, the TechnoTrend card was working. I bought it because the Hauppauge card did not provide /dev/dvb, but after finding out that the infrared receiver of the TT card did not receive any signals I added the Hauppauge card again just to be able to use the infrared control. After putting it in, the TT card still worked, and I could use the Hauppauge infrared receiver. Since update to 7.10RC3 I have the problem described above... My goal is to make both cards work with DVB, and one of them with infrared, but I would already be happy if one of both DVB cards worked.

super. I am experiencing nearly nothing but trouble since Februrary, bought four DVB cards, did four installations,

- spent about 40 hours to try with different DVB cards
- spent about 10 hours with xorg.conf and NVIDIA TV-Out
- spent about 5 hours to make the optical output of the sound card work
- spent about 5 hours to make networking work with an external DHCP server, disable firewall
- spent about 6 hours to make boot grub with two hard disks attached to the controller
- spent about 14 hours to make the remote control work partially (only cursor keys and OK key work by now)

The technotrend 1500 DVB card worked for two weeks, until the update from beta3 to release fu***d everying up again.... I don´t think I did something wrong...

and now there is nobody who can even tell me what I can try?

frustated...

Off topic: The user surface for browsing media is a bad joke... I have 50.000 MP3 files, and not even the keyboard works while searching, and I can´t use vanity style letter entry on my remote control...

If I make that thing work some day, I would like to contribute by improving documentation and bring in usability know-how... But I would be glad to be able to tell my wife this summer that she can record TV shows, and how she can play complete albums from our audio library...

before I waste any of your time I can't really help as such
though I would just take the nova card out (for now) and concentrate on the Technotrend 1500!
this worked out of the box for me in B4 and RC1
if it is any consolation at all..
I stupidly got rid of my 1500 in favour of a 3200 (big mistake) and now... I to am getting nowhere!
and yes.. it takes about a week to find a specific film or MP3 on my system too
oh.. and why not just pick up a windows MCE remote to save you worrying about the remote issues.. you can get them on Ebay as a complete kit very cheaply

SOLVED: After doing a full installation of LinuxMCE 7.10 from scratch, the Technotrend finally card works, but there are two other problems...

- I have no more audio because my  sound card got card number 2 instead of 0
- Now none of the two infraread receivers in the DVB cards works any more

I keep on trying.

I solved that using asoundconf utility. First of all let's see the list of sound cards in the system. In my case it looks like that:

Yep asoundconf is very useful command!

What DVB card are you struggling to configure?

I found what caused that problem after discussion in the linux-dvb mailing list. See my comment here - http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=5422.msg31798#msg31798. If I understand clearly what we need to do to add Audiowerk2 driver into modules black list.

I recently found the thread in the dvb mailing list. (Sorry for the separate posting, I did not recognice that thread here until today).

And: Yes, on first regular boot after a new installation of LMCE, it worked (as I wrote here)... But two days later, after a reboot, the problem appeared. So I think something changes the ordering of the drivers after the first boot, so the Audiowerk driver is initialized first?! If so, should we add some entry to the bugtracker?

Hi gazzzmann,

I can simulate a Windows MCE remote with my logitech Harmony... The real problem I have now the IR receivers. There is just no signal at all, though the receivers in both DVB cards are regognized and registered as /dev/input/event4 and /dev/input/event5.

thanks for trying to help me... As the TT1500 card now works after having resolved a driver conflict with snd_aw2, I will now try the Nova S-Plus PCI as a secondary card. After having plugged in the card this morning, I now see /dev/dvb/adapter0 and /dev/dvb/adapter1, so there is some hope :-)

(I have given up trying to make a TT3200 (HD) card work, because of issues with multiproto, MythTV patches, and so on. Anyone wants to buy the card?)
