How do i change graphic driver

I have tried for many days to get mce up and running. i`ve had a lot of problems with new hardware, and now with mce. I have installed a graphic card , gainward bliss 8400gs pcx. but I can not change the driver from vesa to nvidia. Have read the forum but can not find any help. I have tried a few things but it does not help.

Any suggestions??

I`ll take another look at this.. But the drivers should already be installed??? Hmmm

The drivers included in LMCE 704 is only good for 4xxx, 5xxx and 6xxx series Nvidia cards, that's why you have problems.
You could/should wait for 710s release, soon^tm

Hmm? i am trying to follow the instructions on http://wiki.linuxmce.com/index.php/Display_Drivers , but my login is incorrect. I am trying to log in with the user account i`ve created during the Kubuntu install. Is it another default user/pass for this??

after step 3 on this page http://wiki.linuxmce.com/index.php/Display_Drivers, after typing root@dcerouter:~# telinit 1 I get an error message.. 

Error: `etc/init.d/rc` exited outside the expected code flow.
init: rc1 main process (15384) killed by TERM signal

I can not get any further...

That shouldn't happen on a healthy system, try rebooting in rescue mode.

Hi. Ok!

The latest driver are installed. But after running the AVWizard the system still can`t change the driver.. Still running on vesa driver. 

Any suggestions??

I guess you're going to have to do it for the system then.   You probably just need to replace "vesa" with "nvidia" as described here: http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Display_Drivers#Chipset_driver.

I am really trying, but i can not find out how to configure that file.. I try to read http://wiki.linuxmce.com/index.php/Display_Drivers but in the , generating template section , i get lost. I can not open and configure the xorg file.. Hmmm.... Am i even starting at the right place. ? I am logged in as root. also in rescue mode. hmmm

Need more help

From a terminal you can just do "nano /etc/X11/xorg.conf" for instance, that should open it in an easy to use editor, then find "vesa" and replace it with "nvidia".  Next you might want to reboot and run the AVWizard again.

Did you follow:

"LinuxMCE keeps reconfiguring my display settings
Add a line containing exit to the top of the /usr/pluto/bin/Xconfigure.sh file."

or I just like to chmod 000 /usr/pluto/bin/Xconfigure.sh

After editing your xorg.conf as Zaerc suggested you need to do the following;

sudo sh -c 'md5sum /etc/X11/xorg.conf > /var/lib/x11/xorg.conf.md5sum'

To make sure X accpets the changes you made ;-)
