shutdown computer
« on: November 21, 2007, 06:03:09 pm »
Is there a button in the orbiter screens somewhere that I am missing that simply shuts the computer down. I don't want hibernate ... I don't want sleep. I just want to shutdown without having to use the physical button on the mahcine. Am I dumb and just missing this?

I did not see one. I think you may have to login and sudo a shutdown command. Also its possible if your system has good power management support in it's bios that a push of the power button would tell the linux os to start to shutdown.

Just use the "Power" menu item in the "Advanced" menu and then select "Halt MD"... if you do that at an MD then that specific MD will power off. If you do that at the Core then the whole System will power off... including the MD's.

You can also shutdown/reboot from the web-admin.  And pushing the power button (short) works on my systems as well.

Thanks guys for the quick responses.

Mathewss: I have noticed that kubuntu in general does a good job at recognizing a physical power button push and shuts the system down nicely in response to 1. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Totallymaxed: I just tried that and it didn't work.  I got a screen that said "Shutting Down" with an OK button. and then right back to the "select the orbiter that you want to control" screen. The machine did not shutdown.

Zaerc: I haven't played with the web:admin screens at all yet. But I know that sometimes I will want to simply shut the machine off from orbiter itself. Thanks for the pointer though... when I get a chance I am going to try to control my md with my Palm TX through the web-admin.
