What graphics card to buy?

Hi I'm getting really confused about what graphic card to buy?
I'm not looking for anything expensive and currently thinking about these cards:

Club 3D GeForce 7200GS:
http://www.macwarehouse.co.uk/catalogue/item/V0004774

ASUS EN7300LE/HTD:
http://www.pyramid.com/Product.aspx?StockCode=292155

It just seems like every card I search for in the forum have some kind of problems or not able to run UI2 with alpha or UI3.
And the high end cards 8XXX seem to be badly supported in Linux...
So It leaves me:
1. Don't buy Ati.
2. Don't buy to "high end" card.
3. Don't buy card with to little ram.

So my question is, what is left?   :)

Would it be possible to have some "working out of the box" hardware list or thread?

Well it does not help that I'm a new Linux user :) so messing around with config files and stuff to get the hardware working still makes my brain hurt a little bit  ;D

This is my current hardware:

Case:           Antec VERIS Fusion 430 -EC
Motherboard: ASRock 4Core1333-FullHD
Cpu:             Core 2 Duo E4400 2 GHz
Ram:            Kingston ValueRAM PC2-5300CL5 / 667 MHz
Video:          Integrated ATI X1250 (and not installed FX5200)

We're having no problems with 6200LE & 7300LE here under UI2

We already have that: http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Category:Hardware but unfortunately hardly anybody can be bothered to add their hardware...

What version of the nvidia drivers are you using?
I have an Asus EN6200LE which is reported to work with UI2 + alpha blending by several people here in the forum. When I turn on alpha blending my CPU usage goes up to around 70% without doing anything and up to 100% when I try to use menus. The menus have a high latency and flickr screensaver is not moving smoothly... Because of that I can only use UI2 medium at the moment. Any ideas?

Cheers,

We're using the non-open nVidia drivers

Do you have it working with alpha blending, and no tearing in video?  I have an nvidia, and UI2 works great with alpha blending, but there is tearing in the video.  If I switch to UI2 with no alpha blending, the tearing goes away.

I have to say we still see some tearing with alpha blending on... the nVidia drivers are still as good as they could be :-(

Do you have any experience with the fiire products?  I am wondering if they have the same tearing problem with alpha blending.

Well, of course I'm also using the proprietary driver (nvidia not nv). But which version are you using?

We're using the version that lmce-0704 installs from deb cache.

The version shipped with LinuxMCE-0704 - nvidia-glx = 1.0.9631+2.6.20.5-15.20

and under LinuxMCE-0710 - nvidia-glx = 1:1.0.9639+2.6.22.4-14.9+lmce3

We're using the nVidia driver that is installed as standard by lmce-0704 with update 4 installed... here is the deb;

pluto-nvidia-video-drivers_2.0.0.44.0709022200_i386.deb

I cant seem to find anywhere in the threads about this, but is the next release going to support Nvidia 8xxx graphics cards? I am wondering if I should downgrade my current setup.
